Experimenting with moldable skin barriers on a short stoma

I had a bunch of those too and I had to give up on them for convex. I have about a half inch too. Nothing worked. I tried rings and all different brands of supplies... always ended up with a leak under the wafer. The stoma is just too short. The other issue is that it retracts sometimes. Even if things looked perfect when I applied the wafer, it wouldn't stay that way. I never tried rolling it inward but I feel like I gave it 110% and nothing was going to work. It got to the point hat my skin looked really bad and hurt and finally I said forget flat.

When I use the convex, i can do next to nothing else for prep. I just shower and clean off with an adhesive remover wipe, then I cut the wafer to size, then I apply it :)

I use a 2 piece hollister usually.

I like the moldable convatec but the wafer is big so I've been using hollister, it's a much more manageable size. Sometimes I will use a tiny bit of powder around the stoma if my skin looks like it needs it but lately, I haven't had too many issues.

Did you request samples of the convex? I called after i tried some of the flats and told them flat wasn't working for me and all the companies sent me new convex samples. I am sure they loved me...

I really like the coloplast mio but they don't make it in convex. The one thing i hate about their wafers is how stiff they are. I felt like it was cutting into my skin. They gave me coloplast in the hospital.

You probably will switch to a convex wafer sooner or later. My stoma is sometimes out and sometimes retracted. I wear a convatec convex two piece precut. The two piece allows me to center the wafer when my stoma is retracted. I use no rings or pastes or powder. Just Geritrix Benzoin Compound Tincture under the wafer. Never leaks. Skin is healthy.

I haven't got around to trying it yet. I'm still working through the "proven" methods of stopping the burning. This past change I layered up with stoma powder/skin barrier/stoma powder/skin barrier/etc and lots of paste to fill in around the stoma. It's working better but not 100%. Hopefully the convex wafers will take care of things. Fingers crossed.

You can fold the convatec. it shows you how in the packet they send you. I have the convex moldable and those work great for me but the wafer is huge.

You fold it almost inside out, kind of pull it up and in..

I use hollister flextend and ceraplus in covex and no leak issues at all. Where do you leak? Under the wafer? Around the edge? are you cutting to size? Do you cut close? I see you said you tried rings, which did you try? I am wearing a slim now and I definitely prefer the slim ring to the thick one but usually i don't use a ring and the convex stops anything from going under.
