Lesa - I hate to burst your bubble, but I am not so sure that camping out in front of your surgeons office with a suitcase is going to be a beneficial thing, and perhaps they may see you as a little weird. Personally, I would NOT have the surgery until after Christmas because I think that you would still be a rougher shape by Christmas. I was in the hospital 9 days, some people were alot less... but my surgery was on July 20th and I didnt leave the house until August 7th and I went to dinner and a movie. From that day on I felt good...
Thanks for the support about the faculty thing... what do you teach? I am an undergraduate nursing instructor and although I love it, there has been a lot of problems this semester that I didnt love. I just dont know if I want to continue right now with everything else I have going on. Its funny, when I have a day off I am always juggling bewteen should I work on my own homework, or things for the students. Like Tues, its funny... the night before my BIG final exam... and I will be spending 3 hours with the students helping them prepare for their big Patho exam. I guess I am just dedicated!
Lastly, if the prep is so bad for you... couple of tips. If you are doing for it for surgery, try mixing the go lightly with 4 scoops of tang... sounds gross but it is actually drinkable. Also, you could also ask for an ng ube for your prep... although the ng tube hurts a big going in... it is a good way to make sure that you get the prep down without throwing up.
One story from my hospitalization, I was admitting the day before because the prep wasnt working.. they put an ng tube down and it worked fine.. little painful but not too bad. The nurse started bolusing the meds down the tube... and I started to get very nauseous, and I threw up... including the tube. 5 more attempts at the NG tube and they couldnt get it back in... so they gave me go lightly with tang (not too bad) but I was so nauseous I could only drink about 20oz. The next morning...3 tap water enemas... and I was clear... I dont know HOW... its a miracle... LOL! :) But thankfully it worked, at one point I was even going to cancel the surgery because I couldnt stand to have another tube put down (i have a funny anatomy and they couldnt get it in the right spot, but for anyone else it is no big deal).
Anyways... one last question? Did you have a defectography or proctogram yet? No good surgeon should do the surgery without those tests being done.
Hugs,
Emma
