green liquid stool ??

it's bile. nothing to worry about. the digestive systems produces bile all the time. it is usually mixed with the food, so you don't see it in particular, but sometimes when there's not much food, you can see just the bile. that's why it's important ileostomates drink lots, cuz we lose lots of fluids. the foam is probably cuz it's gasy.

Your ostomy is still fairly new, correct? For the first 4 or 5 weeks I had this almost grass-like output - sometimes thick (like spinach) sometimes thin and foamy. As your system gets used to the new plumbing things will settle down and you'll get into a "normal routine". You'll also learn what your body/new system can handle food wise - I carb'd out yesterday and had super thick output, I knew it was gonna happen so I had coffee and tea when I got home to push things through. No leaks or accidents - I finally feel like I am getting the hang of everything and I had my surgery on December 15.

Maybe I wasn't clear - I wasn't indicating that her output was or was not bile, just commenting on what my output was like post op. Sorry for any confusion.

When I was still in the hospital and I was using those "hospital bags" my mom and I used to play "what did I eat" by what my output looked like. Disgusting and hilarious all at the same time!

Raspberry sherbet used to make neon green poo for me when my ileo was new. Now 4 years out my stoma is closing up and I may have to get a re-do, oh lordy. So not eating much for sure. Prune juice so far has worked and worked and worked. It's like it multiplies. Loved my ileo as long as it worked. Gotta get it working again. Enjoy the what did I eat guessing game. A working ostomy is a gift!

My husband just had his surgery for ileostomy reversal 2 weeks ago. After 10 days everything was ok, the movement came after 2 days. Liquid at the beginning and some blood attached, but after 2-3 days was better. Still soft, but normal colour and regular.
After he was suspected to have had an infection where the stoma used to be , he was given antibiotic(tablets- Flucloxacillin) each 6 hours. After the first 2 tablets he started to feel very bad, nausea and started to have liquid stool and was vomiting green stuff. We thought is the bile, due to green colour. We went quickly back to hospital where he had the surgery, they made a chest and belly x-ray immediately. Luckily, everything was ok, only since then - there are 5 days already- the stool is still green, like grass green (as I have seen few comments here). He still has some nausea episodes (not that often as 5 days ago) once a day. They did a CT scan, to be sure that bowels are ok (he had a portion of big bowel still left and was joined with the small bowel). The initial stoma was not due to any disease, but a motorbike accident. The bowels are in good condition and he had no issue in those 14 months , since he had stoma.
I understand the people here had the same green stool, but with stoma. My husband has no stoma anymore- starting 2 weeks ago - but still the stool is liquid and green, as 5 days ago . No improvements, unfortunately. He is afraid to eat solid food, he started today with mash potatoes (yesterday he ate peas and today he found them in his stool, whole, unprocessed )

Any similar experiences ? We really don't know what to do, we are a little scared and the doctors wouldn't tell us more ! They gave him so far penicillin and liquids IV to hydrate him and we are waiting for a change !!

I’ve had my liquid stool come out green- like grass green. My doc says it’s normal.

I also tend to find some indigested food - I can tell when i have raspberry seeds, tomato skins, etc. I imagine the same wirh peas and corn although I haven’t tried those yet. If you don’t chew super good, it’ll just pass on through.

My transport time from eating until it comes out is about an hour or two. Hope this helps!
