help alittle stools coming out of bum

Hi my Father has had an iliostomy for a year....today he has had some stomach pains and some air a little bits of stool came out today....it that common..Thanks

It sounds as if your father has a "temporary" ileostomy, and yes what he is experiencing is normal or a temporary ileostomy.

Is it stool or is it mucous? It's unusual that it is only starting now since he's already had his ileostomy for a year. That along with the stomach pain might warrant visit (or at least a phonecall) to his doctor. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

This can be completely normal with temporary (aka loop ileostomies). Sometimes, stool from the bag can get into the mucous fistula (the smaller non-working stoma that is connected to the anus) and work it's way down and out in the normal way. It can be scary when it happens and you haven't been told what to expect, but it's normal :)
