PAIN UNDER REVERSAL SURGERY SITE

I had reversal surgery on July 14, 2006 and last night and all day today I felt sharp pains under the incision.  I also saw blood on the TP.  Any advise on what it can be?  I'm going to try and get an appointment to get checked out tomorrow.  Is this normal....can anyone help to put my mind at ease?  Thanx

The pain under the incision line is most likely adhesions, nothing to worry about. If you had the surgery for UC, blood on ocassion is normal. Get checked but try not to worry.

I believe SueBear has the same answer as do I: the pain under the incision line that you are experiencing is possibly adhesions. Do you experience pain when you are having a BM? When you have a BM do you feel that you evacated everything? I experienced a similiar situation in 09/05 nine months after my reversal (done on 12/20/05), plus I experienced pain where the stoma was whenever I had a BM. My surgeon scheduled me for a Flex Sigmoidography test and a Barium of the Esphogus, Stomach, and Small Intestine to see if I had a blockage, additional scar tissue build up, polps, etc. After the testing was completed, he said everything looked well. Before 09/05, I experiencing excruitating hemmorhoids, swelling, bleeding, etc. Now, I know what to eat and drink and what not to eat and drink, plus I eat several small meals a day along with plenty of water. If in doubt, check with your surgeon just to be on the safe side. Good Luck!

Do hope you saw your surgeon or GI doctor today!  Or at least spoke with their nurse and made an asap appointment for them to look at you.  I don't think you should be having incision pain this long after surgery.

Thanx guys so much for writing back.  I went to see the Dr.  He said it was normal pain and that it was my bodys way of telling me to slow down.  Sometimes it'll happen when I get overly tired.  The abdominal wall gets inflammed and clinches on the nerves that are running through that area and that's how I get the pain.  No, it doesn't hurt when I have a BM.  I rested like he told me to and the pain is almost gone now.  Sue mentioned it might be adhesions. What is that exactly?

Adhesions are scar tissue. For some people adhesions can be very painful.

  We had our reversals on the same day and it's strange that I have had some of the same symptoms lately. I also went to the MD and received a similar answer. The pain comes quickly and when I rest, it seems to ease up. I hope you are feeling better and getting plenty of rest.

Hi Cheryl,

Me too. I guess just listen to your body.  You're obviously doing more than you should be.  I have been taking it easy and things are going good.  I also noticed that when I get upset and yell I'm straining that sight as well and it starts bothering me.  Does that happen to you?  My only concern right now is getting a heria.  I'm so scared and so careful.  It's very hard to use my stomach muscles and I don't know if that's going to last a while.
