Hello! Pat
According to your posting do you currently have a subtotal colectomy in which you are experiencing frequent bouts of diarrhea into the ostomy bag? I had my ostomy bag from 09/20/05 through 12/20/05 along with a TPN System in my right upper arm to help me gain weight so that I could have a reversal ileostomy. The keep to get by the frequent BMs and potential bag blowouts is make a daily journal enter time of day you eat, what you eat, how much you eat, and how fast the outcome begins. I keep it light foods for the first few weeks while I got use to the ostomy bag. I drank lots of Boost Tropical Drinks along with Propel Calcium Flavored Water. Soda was not good for me. Then I added egg whites, bagels w/apple jelly, little butter, Butterball turkey breast on white bread little mustard, no milk, or ice cream, frozen sherbert, etc. Plus I was receiving 8 hours Vitaline Feedings through TPN system to gain weight for my reversal. After the reversal ileostomy, three to five months, I had BMs 20xs daily, used lomitol and watched everything I ate. Eleven Months later, I eat whatever I would like even Chinese, Mexican, Italian, no red meats, broiled fish, plain turkey breast, swiss cheese, egg whites, bagels, chips, and every now and then a Coke a Cola.
So everything takes time and one must have a great deal of patience to accomplish the biggest task of all: Excellent Health Recovery. So I hope you are doing better and continue to use the process of elimination technique and be positive. Happy Holidays to You and Many More to Come!
