Chertuc Hello There!
I hope you are feeling better after your reversal with the exception of your question regarding constipation. I had a ilestomy/colostomy 09/19/05 and reversal 12/20/05 due to a slow transit colon. After my reversal up to almost the one year mark, I had frequent bowel movements some small stool formation and some diarrhea depending on what I ate such as chinese food (mai fun noodles, hot and sour soup), a cup of cappiccuno, butter, just to name a few. I was losing weight like no tomorrow. I was down from 130 lbs to 112 lbs. Then all of a sudden, the small intestine started to take over the responsibility of the missing large intestine. Then I started putting on weight and also I noticed that my bowel movements decreased. I got nervous when I didn't go to the bathroom all day. Thinking here we go again. So my surgeon told me to drink milk of magnesia and prune juice like a cocktail within an hour your in the bathroom. At first it didn't work, told me to take a fleet and he the ordered a flexisigmoid and barium esphogus, abdominal area, and small bowel. After those tests, no problem. It has been a year since my reversal and I can't say I feel great all the time, but it is much better than how I felt before as far as the bowel movements. I gained some weight, but feel sluggish all the time. Whenever, I don't have a bowel movement, I increase my water intake and take a shot of milk of magnesia. If you are in doubt about how you feel, don't hesitate to call your surgeon and like him or her run some tests. But remember, everyone's body is different. Keep the faith!
