Just had a colostomy and want to know what is going on?

Hello, I am asking this for my Husband he just had a colostomy on June 14th. Has at this point  operable colorectal cancer. Operated on Thursday and was sent home on Monday, with absolutly no info on what to expect. The biggest unexpected thing is that he is still having some stuff coming from the rectum. Is this normal? Can't seem to find much info about things like that. Can any one give any info or good places to get info. Besides this one of course.

Yes this is normal and just indicates that the tissue is healthy and shedding.   I don't know why but NO surgeons ever tell their patients about this.  He might see some blood or the drainage might be pink but again both of those are completely normal and nothing to worry about.

Yes i have experienced this,as the bottom half of my bowel was not removed,it still produces mucus,and this is what comes away..

If your husband still has his rectum, then it will continue to produce mucus. This is what's it was meant to do. I stick a little toilet paper between my cheeks(sorry for being so blunt) to absorbe it. It keeps my clothes from becoming wet.

From: Sedona gal, can I get the Crohns Disease when I already have a Colostomy?  If so what happens as far as seeing a GI doctor?
