Badgaggirl....Find an Ostomy group in your area! They help a lot also with questions. The first time I went, I saw many OLD grey haired people...(my grey is covered up) and it helped anyway...younger ones came to the next meeting. Many companies like Hollister and Convatec have reps speak and ask questions that helps.
Also found the first 6 months the worst. In my depression over all this and being in a starved underweight mode from sickness, I ate my way up to 160 from 89 pounds (sick weight)! So don't eat over your sadness. I felt big with the bag and now I am big. When I had the before operation briefing, I laughed at the nurse because those bags were so big! Now I use a bigger one at night so I can sleep all night. I just put it side to side, not hanging down. I also cut up some old t shirts with hole for bag to fold over at night. This is added protection if it leaks at night... I use shorter ones daytime and fold them under..I'm only 4'10" and hanging down is weird. Had to go to briefs for coverage. Good luck on the transition...not the most sexy condition for sure! LBJ

Hi, I am new here. I have had my ostomy surgery for two months now. After reading several of the posts I feel at home. Constant crying, clothes don't fit the same, feel butvhered and depressed. One of my questions is: I am very small: 80 pounds and under five feet. This bag is HUGE and enters a room long before I do. I am on Ativan, but think I need to see a therapist.
