Hello my fellow stoma displayers! I've been reading this site for awhile now and am very thankful for all of your posts.

Do any of you suffer from chronic nausea? I have had sporatic problems with these two issues. The muscle spasms occur when going from sitting/laying to standing. They start in my abdomen and run down my legs and my entire body then tenses up for a second. I recently weaned off of percocet since last week and just a couple of days ago off of the fentonyl patch. I've been on various pain killers since my surgery on 5/11. I had many complications after surgery that has made my recovery long delayed.

Does anyone have any idea why I'm having these problems? I can't figure out if it's weaning off pain killers or something else. I've had output but since yesterday it's been off and on a large amount of fluid.

I had my surgeries back in february. The 1st was a resection then 1 week later I was back under the knife due to my colon not waking up and 1/3 of it was necrotic and perforated. This got me a temp ostomy in which I had multiple issues with abscesses. I have been on pain meds since february but I did find that I had nausea issues every morning. I was vomiting at least once a week and like I said only in the morning and my husband gets grossed out easily so it has been since January since we have had sex therefore I knew i wasn't pregnant. I found taking my meds with milk in the morning then laying down for a couple of hours helped the nausea and vomiting. I just had my ostomy reversed and they had to scrape my abdominal walls to rid me of the abscess and there were many adhesions (sp?). My surgery was 2 weeks ago now and I am still feeling crappy but that is to be expected since my surgery (per my doctor) was as involved and on the same level of a transplant due to the complications. My surgeon had another one of his assoc assist rather than a resident this time as well. My surgery took 4 hours but it took about 7 to get my pain under control (finally got the epidural). Since this surgery I have not had any nausea issues but since my bowels are waking up I find myself running to the bathroom lots at this time. I wonder if the AB's or the imodium was causing the nausea since those are the only 2 I am no longer taking.

I still get nauseated from time to time.  I had an emergency colstomy bag put on in Feb. 2007.  My colon had perforated due to diverticulitis.  about three weeks after that surgery they had to go back in because my small colon became obstructed.  After that surgery my incision became infected and they had to open me back up and let my abdomen heal from the inside out.  My doctor prescribed phengran to take for the nausea.  I go back to see him Thursday to start talking about a reversal.  The nurse at his office said that he may want to take out my gallbladder because I've still been getting sick.

What did your doctor say the nausea was a result of? What's wrong with your gallbladder and how did they diagnose it? My nurse thinks my nausea and muscle spasms are a result of dehydration so I'm having a test done today. I find it hard to believe as I am drinking water and electrolyte fluid constantly but I was having a lot of fluid output in my bag.

I had my gall bladder test this week and it was fine.  My doctor thinks that I may have an ulcer.  He put me on protonics for the next three weeks.  Hopefully I will be  able to be reversed next month on the 14th.  How did your test go on the dehydration?  My doctor kept telling me when I was in the hospital for the 2nd surgery that he might have to put me on a nutrition tube and a blood transfusion...my blood count would drop one day and come back up the next.  Hopefully it won't come to that the next surgery.
