Ack! I look pregnant!

Well I am four weeks post surgery, and I am not overweight, in fact I am a bit too skinny.  But I put on some regular clothes the other day, after wearing loose stuff, and I look pregnant!  My stomach is all pooched out!  My lower stomach, below my belly button.  I dont' remeber it looking like this before.  Is this normal?

I bet you have some fluid accumulation.  You might want to call your doc and let them know though.

Yeah I do I went to the ER on Friday during all my craziness, and they told me I did, they didnt' seem worried though, will it go away?

I have the exact same thing but I think mine is due to lack of muscle tone from being hospitalized for so long. I've lost a lot of weight since my surgery but my lower abdomen is sticking out so much that I still have to wear the same size pants. It's very frustrating! Anyway, back to you! Swelling is definitely common for quite some time after surgery and it should start to go down soon. If you are really concerned, you might request a CT scan from your doctor. That would show if fluid was accumulating in your abdomen. Good luck!

Thank you, mine might be lack of muscle too, lol. I just told my husband I weigh less now than I have in 10 years, but my tummy looks so big. I don't want to have to have a CT of my tummy, cause then I will have to drink that stuff!

Hi, would love to now how your big tummy problem is going. I have exactly the same thing after an ileostomy reversal (almost a month ago) but the surgeon tells me not to worry at all. Never had the greatest tummy muscles but never used to look 6 months pregnant the whole time! Thanks and best wishes...

it's a little better, and would be alot better if i would stay out of the mints at work! And the hush puppies, lol.
i don't look six months pregnant anymore though, the swelling went down alot as the weeks went on. I think that if I could do some situps, i am way too lazy, lol, it would be alot better.

thanks ever so much, you can't imagine how much better I feel and you made me smile.  A situp has always been a complete stranger to me!!!  If only my daughter would eat all her food and then I wouldn't have to mop up!

if my son would eat all his food, for that matter any of it, lol i would be happy. He is bad to throw it onthe floor, gotta love toddlers!

the other day i started doing the stair master thing my husband just HAD to have and while i was doing it i twisted my body some, and that seemed to help my tummy a little, i don't think you shoudl do that just yet though!

I have about a month to go before a reversal and am trying to keep my spirits up. The ileostomy was due to a sphincteroplasty that didn't heal right so was really a complete surprise. It's good to read your postings and see how well you've all dealt with it. i wish i could lower my anxiety in general. Am having a hard time sleeping. Partly due to having to get up multiple times for wound care and using narcotics for pain. Trying to see all this as a road to recovery but am finding it tough. Any suggestions?

I would love to know how long it took for your BM's to return to nomal once you had your reversal? did you do Kege's regularly? Eat anything special or were you on any special meds? Any times of day you worried about or did things run pretty smoothly. Just wondering how much of a hill there is yet to climb? Any problems with stoma healing? thanks for your help.
