I had my colostomy reversal on Aug. 14th and came home from the hospital yesterday. I've had a lot of runny bowel movements and have gone in my sleep. I'm wearing protective pads to help with the accidents. This morning I've had a lot of pain where the stoma was and passed bright red blood clots instead of stool. I've not had a normal bowel movement yet. My stomach looks like I'm six months pregnant.

Has anyone been reversed and have these kind of problems? I guess I was hoping for a miracle reversal.

I may have my reversal in 4 weeks so am looking forward to getting it over with. I've heard healing is different people. It sounds like it would be good for you to let your doctor know what's happening. i know it takes a while for your sphincter muscles to work again. Have you been doing Kegel exercises? i try to do them when i think of them. Good luck with your wound care. Maybe someone else at this site has had experience with reversals and could advise you.

Thanks Penny for your reply. I have been doing kegel exercises. I'm hoping that will help. My brother had a colostomy last Aug and was reversed in Jan. He didn't have any problems like this. He also thinks I should call my doctor tomorrow. Good luck on your reversal. I wish you the best.

My reversal was June 20th, my stool is staring to form up a little, I take iron supplements and metemucil capsule. I had 1 accident a cpl weeks ago but nothing like it was. I would definitly call the dr about the blood. I have a local infection since part of a nylon suture grew inso much the dr was unable to retrieve the whole thing and upon it making its way out it popped pus like a zit at least I was in the shower when that happened. I have to place gauze in the open area so the infection wicks out and so the skin wont heal with the infection still in me. No ABs were given to me and things are healing well on their own just by following his orders. I too am still bloated from surgery more so on the L side, my R doesnt have colon in it anymore.
