Hi Group!
haleybaby I hear you loud and clear! Redspout thanks so much for your encouraging words. I'd like to piggyback on that. I'm 28 years old, I regularly 'pass' for a high schooler and i had so many of the same fears and concerns about
my ostomie (and my superpubic catheter, but that is a whole other kettle of smelly fish).
What I found: My boyfriend never skipped a beat. I was FAR more nervouse and afraid than he was. In fact, he held back from touching me because he could tell how terrible I felt about
my conditions. Eventually though he won me over and we 'messed around.' I told him how nervous I was, how scared he wouldn't want me and ummm...he proved otherwise.
Ladies, don't be scared. It actually helped me a lot to get a opaque bag (be careful with those things though, you can't feel if you have them on wrong, there is a science to it). Once I couldn't see my stoma and output I felt more comfortable because I knew HE couldn't see my stoma and output.
It was amazing. Yes, you're still attractive and beautiful. As odd as it seems, no one knows about
your little friend unless you tell them and even then, they probably won't believe you. That's always hard for me to remember, but it's true. No one can see it!
i wish you all the best! and a very happy, uneventful recovery.
