Good Doctors in the Nashville Area for subtotal colectomy

Any referrals for good doctors in the Nashville area that does subtotal colectomy for severe inertia.  Large intestine has no motility whatsoever.  Finally giving in to surgeon referral.

I live in Florida, so I can't recommend any colorectal surgeons in your area, but I just wanted to wish you all the best in finding one. I'm glad that you're open to having surgery to improve your life. If you've read any of Amey's posts, she also had severe inertia and has been doing really well since her ileostomy surgery. Please keep us posted on how you're doing.

That you so much for your encouragement.  I have to be honest and state that I am still hesitant.  I have read if the large intestime has limited or no motility that the surgery would probably not help.  I am trying to gather as many questions as I can to present to a surgeon prior to my final determination.  I believe in the power of prayer, so as many others, please put me on your list.

My doctor in Nashville at Vanderbilt is Dr. Richard Miller.  He did mine and did a spendid job and was exceptional in being a personable doctor to me and my wife.  I would recommend him if at all possible.

Thank you for your response.  Does Dr. Miller specialize in colon rectal.  If I could ask, did you have the surgery for colonic inertia?  If you would share some of your questions that you asked Dr. Miller with me or events surrounding before and after your surgery, I will gladly send you my email address, or I would even call you.  Again, thank you so much.

Dr. Miller is listed as professor of surgery in the Division of Trauma & Surgical Critical Care here at the university.  I am not sure if he is considered a doctor for colonic inertia.  I had a condition called diverticilosis and it got infected and ruptured.  I had to have emergency surgery that day and Dr. Miller took out the bad part of the intestine and put in the colostomy.  All I know is he knew exactly what to do.  He left the wound open so that it would heal from the inside out. I am sure if you contacted his office they could fill you in on his expertise.

Kay, I have colonic inertia too, and had a total colectomy in August.  Surgery does help colonic inertia, and I am so happy that I had the surgery.  Before surgery I couldn't have a bowel movement on my own in a month.  My colectomy has given me a whole new world.  You have to walk alot for the rest of your life after this surgery and it is a HUGE surgery and takes awhile to recover from.  I have lost 42 pounds and feel great!  I'm not from Nashville, but went to Cleveland Clinic in Ft. Lauderdale and they're one of the best colorectal departments in the world..  Hope that you get the help that you need.

Would you please give me the correct questions to ask a surgeon?  I have talked to a surgeon's office, and I am sending my files to him regarding all the testing, treatment, prior surgeries I have had, etc.  , ( which has helped lead to my current severity).  The only way I have a bowel movement is with enemas and or laxatives, and as you know it is only slight.  I really don't know how I feel at this moment except that it is helping me to become a loner and thoughts that I will be more alone should I proceed with this.  Silly, right.  I was referred to Barnes in St. Louis, but I have family in the Nashville area.  I live in the Evansville, IN area.  I have considered the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.  Any information you could or would share would be so appreciated.  How can I talk to you or email you directly.  Bless you for responding.
