Well, time to get the big reversal.  Wednesday, Dec 5 in the morning.  It's only been 4 months, but they say everything looks good and I am ready.  I feel certain it wont be as bad as the emergency surgery I had in August to fix the ruptured intestines from diverticilosis.  I will post from the hospital when I am able to let you know how I am doing. 

By the way, your posts in here have been enormously helpful for me these past months.  I thank you all.  I learned how to change wafers and bags and rinse frequently and how to use the pink waterproof tape and was able to master everything very well.  I have been using the New Image with no  problems.  I have prayed for many of you as I have read your plight into the world of ostomies.  God bless each of you.

I hope you have a quick and successful surgery and recovery. I look forward to hearing from you in the hospital and reading your post-op comments. I am glad life with a Ileostomy has found you well. Now, lets pray that life with a reversal is just as good.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you all for your support. David seems to not be getting better. Today the doctor put a scope in and looked around. Said everything looks good. No blockage or any problems. He thinks what happened is that one of the bags got put on to tight and caused swelling. He has also seen on younger people where their muscles tighten up. He said that there is a bunch of icky stuff that will be falling off soon and that the tissue under it is health. They think he will still be in the hospital for a few more days. You are right, also, that he is very depressed. Not about the surgery though. He has this feeling of doom. Like he is dyeing. They are trying to encourage him to walk and he does a little, but he is in so much pain and feels so sick to his stomach that he doesn't want to go. I will keep you informed as we go. sorry about not getting any thing out yesterday. Thank again. you all are just great. And David feels very supported and cared for. Dear Barbara & David:

I am sorry to hear that you're still having a rough go of it.
Many of us on this forum have gone through the ringer like David is now. It helped me to try and stay calm and take it a day at a time (I know it sounds easier said than done!). I think many of us had the same thoughts and feelings, not to say the same physical problems and we made it. Keep encouraging him and let your doctor know of his anxiety and depression there may be meds that can help. Keep us posted and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Another bad day. It started with David throwing up a lot. Every time he belched it smelled like opening is ostomy bag. He is very bloated and extended. They wanted it insert a tube down his nose to let his system rest but he was only able to tolerate it for a short time and had them take it back out. The doctor is going to insert some dye in the stoma and see if there is a blockage. Or possibly his intestines have shut down. He may possibly do a second surgery and make the stoma larger. David does feel a little better and I wish he could have kept the tube in longer. They are now saying he may be in the hospital for a couple of weeks, no longer for days. It is hard to know how to help him. It does help to know that you are there and praying. It helps to just let you know how his is doing and that you all really understand. Well, "tomorrow is another day" and may be it will be better. More tomorrow.

I'm so sorry he is having such a rough time. Why did he have them remove the NG tube? I had to have one put in during my stay because my small bowel hadn't waken up yet and I threw up. They were able to suction out all of the build up bile and whatnot which was a major relief. I think I had the tube in for close to 2 weeks. Although it's an absolute pain and uncomfortable, it's worth it to bite the bullet if it will provide relief.


I hope the recovery gets off to a better start tomorrow!

Dear Barbara & David:

I'm sorry to hear that things haven't gotten much better yet. I also had the NG tube and I remember how uncomfortable it was but I also remember that it did relieve my pain. If he could stand having it a little longer he may get some relief. A lot of time these things are a trade-off(some bad but greater good, hopefully). A longer hospital stay is tough but if they can resolve his issues where he doesn't have to be re-hospitalized later it probably is better. (tradeoff again)

My wife and I are pulling for you and you both are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am home now after 5 days in the hospital.  It's Sunday, December 9.  Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers.  God is good.  All went well.  I had an awesome surgeon and staff.  Everything looks good with a light dry bandage.  Should begin BM today or tonight, but feel good with minor pain.  This is a great site for anyone that needs help or encouragement with this condition.  You folks are great.

Rightway, I'm so glad to hear you're home and doing well. I had a pouchagram last week and am awaiting the results. If all looks good, I can schedule a reversal date for sometime in late January or early February. I'm not adjusting well (psychologically) to life with an ostomy, but I'm nervous about the takedown too. Please keep us posted and let us know how you're doing. I'm very excited for you!
