Son had rectum removed, doing very well

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you all know that my son, now 9 years old, had his rectum removed last month and is doing very well. (His colon was removed last July). Thank you God and thank all of you for being here. Your experiences gave us the courage to make this decision and we are confident that it was the right one. Shaz and Peggy, your experiences were exactly what my son experienced after surgery. Because of you, my husband and I were even better able to be a strong source of comfort for him. He is doing just great. Thank you so very very very much!!!!!!!!

UC diagnosed at age 4. Initially responsive to sulfasalazine, over time UC became more and more aggressive. Unresponsive to asacol and all variations tried, unresponsive to 6mp, endocort, enemas, and eventually also to prednisone. Some probiotics had positive effect, but only temporarily. We refused remicade.

I wanted to congratulate your son on successful surgery as well. I was diagnosed with cd at 14 your son was only 4! i could hardly deal with changes to my body due to medications when i was at that stage of my life, i can't imagine how i would have felt facing that type of surgery. Especially being that I'm facing it now and am frightened of the future. He must be a strong young man. Sometimes I think its better to deal with these things as ur young, it gives you time to deal. I dont know, just one of the many crazy things I think about often. Anyway your son is in my prayers and I am sincerely happy for him!

I'm so glad to hear he's doing well :) When he gets older you won't be able to call him anal retentive :)
