my sister lipgloss had her surgery today

hi guys you all know lipgloss she had her op today, i went to see her shes on morphine for her pain, which she is in alot, she has bad back pain does anyone know why that would be, and is there anything stronger then morphine she can have

Elisha,

i've been praying for your sister all day, and i'll continue to pray for her and her back pain. We're supposed to be keeping in touch to share our experiences as my ileostomy is tuesday. Other than her back pain is she in good spirits? Did her doctor say that she pulled through the surgery well? Tell her we're thinking about her and wishing her well!

Back pain is the norm usually for this surgery... moving will really help and is necessary for a speedy recovery. She will probably protest, but I doubt it will do any good. They do know best when it comes to this.

I've not heard good stuff about Dilaudid. However, Ativan helps relax things a bit. Just remember .. the more drugs in the body to kill pain or relax will also have an effect on the guts "waking up".

It's hard to see a loved one in pain like that. But she is now on her road to recovery. Please give her our best and keep us updated on her progress.

The back pain was the worst. I honestly felt like someone had beat me with a baseball bat in my back. I was so sore! I am sorry your sister is having to experience this pain. It does subside slowly. She will just have to focus on resting and healing. As far as the medications, I am not sure. I refuse pain medications because I wanted to walk and heal faster. I could not function on medications.

Please tell your sister that we are all wishing her well in her recovery.

Thank you so much for the quick update on Samie! I've been praying for her, too, and am glad to hear that she made it through surgery okay. The back pain will subside, along with all the other pains that go with surgery. Once she heals, she will be on her way to a very healthy future! Please tell her we're thinking about her and wish her well. Also, if she has any questions about anything, let her know that we're here to help every step of the way!

yeah the back pain is defintely normal, and for me it lasted longer than any of hte other pain, it's because you can't lay and sit the way you normally do, and you tend to hunch over at first, but that goes away once you get the stomach pain gone and can go back to being able to sit and walk and lay normally again.

Hi Elisha,

Thanks for letting us know Samie came through her op ok. She will have back pain like the others said but it should hopefully ease when she starts to become more mobile.

Please let her know i'm thinking off her and wish her well.

Elisha - Thanks for the update on Lipgloss. I was thinking about her yesterday. I had Dilaudid in the hospital and did fine with it. In fact I had heard it was preferable to Morphine. The back pain was unexpected for me and took a long time to go away, but it was still better than being sick.  Please keep us posted on her progress.

praying4healing- she is alot better today, her surgery went well and as planned, it about 5 hours, her back pain will eventually get better when she starts moving, there puttin her on food tomorrow, hopefully will keep u updated

they still havent given her a bath they gave her a wash, but thats it its been 3 days know what do you think should she ask them for one, the morphine is also making her feel a bit sick, she is going to eat tomorrow the stoma has responded but does go back to sleep on occasions is this normal, plz reply back asap

Elisha,

Thanks for the update. If the morphine is making her nauseas, she can ask for anti-nausea medicine from the nurse. I wrote about the bath and the stoma in your other post.
