lipgloss not given bath yet what shall i do

they still haven't given her a bath yet is this ok, they have washed the wound but thats it, she was up on the chair today 4 a bit, should she ask the nurses to give her a bath now it has been 3 days. plz let me know. the stoma has started to work, but does go back to sleep on occations is that normal, and oh instead of a 2inch stoma theyhave had to make a 11/2inch stoma is that ok, please let me know so i can tell her mad

Thanks for the update on Samie. I'm so glad to hear that her stoma has already started working. She should definitely ask the nurse to give her a sponge bath or have them find out if she's allowed to take a shower. They can put a plastic bench in the shower for her to sit on, so she doesn't have to stand the whole time. It will make her feel so much better to feel clean.

My stoma is 1 1/2 inches, and it works great, so please tell her that it's okay. The stoma does not put out constantly, so it's normal for it to be active after eating and then not do much until the next meal. Is she on solid food yet? It's important for her to walk the halls as much as she can and to drink plenty of fluids. Tell her we're thinking about her! :-)

Yep, Cecilia, you took the words right out of my mouth!

A sponge bath at the very least, but a shower would make her feel much better. It will really tire her out but it will make her feel better.

The size of the stoma is just fine.

Tell her we are thinking of her.

honestly, i woldnt' worry too much about the bath, it would make her feel better probably, but if you have ever had a shower hooked up to all those iv's its a pain!

i'm glad she's up and about! Did she know before hand what size her stoma would be? Is this common practice? nobody's told me what size mine will be. When does it look like she'll be going home? When i couldn't walk in the hospital, they didnt help me with bathing at all. I just waited for my mom and sponged bath myself (with her help of course). She'll be squeaky clean in no time! U guys are still n my prayers

I did rely on the nurses for my bath my mom went to Walgreens and pick up Comfort Bath Personal Cleaning Ultra-Thick Disposible Washcloths. A shower was out of the question for me due to my IVs so these worked great.

My mom also picked up Comfort Personal Cleansing Shampoo Cap for my hair which I used once. It worked too but I was glad that by day four I was able to sit in a chair in from of the bathroom sink and wash my hair.

praying4healing-she told me to tell u that she doesn't regret the operation, she is feeling better, she is on solids now such as soup, jelly custards, the stoma is usally 2inches, her wound is healing nicely i saw it myself, she did fel a bit sick and emotional but thats to do with the pain relief, her back is getting better she was on 2units of blood today as her iron was low, everything else is well though, shes siting in the chair for about 9 hours now, she is able to get up off the chair and on to the bed.

she has had a sponge bath but the staff have advised he not to have the shower untillshes of the morphine is that ok, or are they just puting it off so they don't need to help her much.

I'm so glad to hear that she doesnt regret it and she's feeling better! I've been talking about her all day to my mom and people from my church.
I haven't had the surgery as u know, but when i was on the morphine, i was verrrrrrrry woozy and could hardly walk sometimes, but at the same time I would think that if she wants to take a shower and there's no medical reason why she can't then the nurses should help her.
Mayb someone who's had the ostomy can answer that...

and actually, showers are very tiring, the first shower i took at home, i had to take a nap afterwards! it was the day i got home, and i almost passed out in there, from standing up so long, i was still on pain pills and i probably shouldn't have attempted a long hot shower, so tell her not to do that, lol

When I was in the hospital, the nurses were adamant about cleanliness. They would change my sheets every morning and bring me fresh towels and a new gown. They encouraged me to take a shower. They put a plastic bench in there and offered to help me. That's why a bench would be good for Samie, so she could sit there and let the hot water run over her. If she's able to sit in a chair, she'll be able to sit in the shower. It will help build her stamina and make her feel so good to be clean.
