length of hospital stay

I am scheduled for surgery on the 25th at the cleveland clinic.  My surgeon guy told me 3-5 days in the hospital.  It may be that you just hear the worse stuff on these websites but it doesn't sound like too many people get out in only 3-5 days.  It seems like most people have complications etc.  Does it sound like my surgeon is overpromising or is it just that on these sites you just hear about the bad stuff?

Regardless, I do still feel positive about the surgery but I just want to go into this being realistic. 

well i had surgery last tuesday and was out on saturday. and i thanked GOD every chance i got. I guess it depends on how sick you are when you go in as well. I wasnt sick at all really, just in a lot of pain. Some people stay in longer due to the type of surgery as well. Mine was laproscopic

I think ash83 is right. studies indicate that people do best, emotionally, when recovering from something difficult (or when trying to get through something difficult) if they don't set their sights in a certain date but instead say "I know I will get out of here at some point." people get very disappointed if they think they'll be out on day X and then aren't, and that can lead to real depression, so I would try not to focus on a certain number of days.

I had my surgery on a Wednesday morning and was sent home on Saturday. However, I had already been in the hospital 12 days prior to having the surgery so I was there a total of 15 days. I think the Drs rushed me out the door b/c the insurance company was giving them a hard time about my hospital stay.

My husband and I met with Dr. Tracy Hull and a slew of other doctors today at the Cleveland Clinic. I went to get a second opinion and a "woman's opinion" on everything I've been through. From June 21 - October 9, I had four surgeries -all due to having a baby 21 years ago. The doctor on call (the one I absolutely did not want) gave me an episiotomy and I still tour really bad. I had a 4th degree laceration. So, during the last 21 years everything has gone down hill for me. The doctor who gave me a colonoscopy last June told me he could correct the damage. It didn't quite go as planned. I figured it wouldn't hurt getting an opinion from someone at the Cleveland Clinic. She pointed some things out to my husband and I that my male surgeons did mention. I was grateful. Who is doing your surgery there? Do you live far from the Clinic? We're two hours away so I'm trying to decide if I want to make the trip in May or June. I have to wait until then for further surgery to fix a fistula and muscle damage.
