Has anyone had an intestinal yeast infection and used fluconazole?  If so how long before you saw an improvement?  Jan625, my wife, is in the the hospital with this and the doctors think this has been the cause or her excessive fluid ostomy output.

I had to use it when I had thrush (yeast in the mouth) this is also what women are prescribed for yeast infections (in vaginal areas). When I had it in my mouth it did not take long to get relief, mayb a couple of days. Mayb someone who has actually had it n their intestines will b able to offer more help. I hope she feels better. Please keep us posted!

My mom was on this drug during chemo and it helped her yeast infections pretty quickly, but I cannot speak from my experience.

Just wanted to say that I'm so sorry that she is back in the hospital, I really hope they can finally find out what is causing her to have such a high output and get it under control. She really deserves a break, tell her we are thinking about her and hoping she comes home soon and let us know what you find out.

I'm home from the hospital again. I was in just over night and do feel better right now.

They really think my high output is from the yeast infection and that it might take two weeks before to see results. I pray to God that this tho answer as it has really been hard on Bob and I.

They did take all kinds of blood test and thet came back, ok. Guess that is one thing that I wont have to worry about right now.

I have to take the Fluconazol for two weeks and one of the side effects is diarrhea. I'm taking loperamine more than I like too. But it really seems to help.

Will go back for more IVs Frid. to keep up on things.The Fluconazole that I'm taking for the yeast infection has a side effect of diarrhea. So I'm taking loperamine more that I would like too.

I'm lucky in one way. I have a good Doctor that is working together with the GI Doctor to try to get this under control.It has been to deal with and there has been times when I just want to give up.

Thank you all for being there for Bob and I. It has really helped us both.

Off yeast med. and think it might be helping me. Been off of it for two days and feel better.
It has nine days since was at the hospital for IVs and am drinking alot and hope it works.Will probly still have to have IVs here and there, but will not have to have a PP line.
Will let you know it's going.

Jan,

Thank you for the update.  I certainly hope that you can continue to control this fast output.  I will keep my fingers crossed for you.  Please keep us updated on your progress.... I believe you may want to continue taking the loperamide as needed.  You will know when you need it   Just keep on watching your diet, and those foods that can tend to cause the high output.  Hang in there.
