It's good to be home

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers while I was in the hospital, and a big thank you to Peggy for keeping you all updated on how I was doing.

I went into the hospital on March 12th with a small bowel obstruction caused by adhesions from my proctocolectomy surgery in October 2006. The doctors were hoping it was a partial blockage and that we could avoid surgery, but it turned out to be a full blockage and I had to have surgery on March 19th. The scar tissue had wrapped itself around my small intestine so tightly that the surgeon had to remove an inch of it and reconnect it.

I couldn't eat or drink for 10 days and was hydrated solely by IV fluids and given nutrients through TPN. I also had to have an NG tube in to keep me from throwing up. It was not a pleasant experience, to say the least. I was discharged on Easter Sunday and have been catching up on some much needed rest since I got home. I have a 7" incision in my abdomen, so it hurts every time I get up and move around.

I,m so glad that you are home where you can get the rest you need to heal. You have been in my prays and my thoughts everday.

The same thing happened to me in Dec.07. I was in the hospital with a small intestine blockage do to abhesions and had sergery the 29th og Dec. and came home Jan.8. Was in for a week before that trying to get it unblocked. Was on the same things you were on.

Just take care and get alot of rest. Will be thinking of you.

Cece, be sure to get lots of rest. Good luck at your follow up appt tomorrow morning. You'll feel much better after you get those staples out and you'll be able to move about a little easier. Remember, move s-l-o-w-l-y!! Take care of yourself. Keep drinking....

I'm sorry you had to go through this, too. Did yours happen suddenly like mine? I was feeling great on Monday and then on Tuesday had abdominal pain that kept getting worse. By Tuesday night, I was throwing up and was admitted to the hospital Wednesday morning. I also had no output into my bag.

If any of you ever experience these symptoms, please call your gastroenterologist and go to the hospital right away. It's definitely not something you want to "wait and see" on.

The stories I read about the complications some of you have had are actually inspiring to me. I had my colon removed Oct 07 and was healed up and doing great. But then my blood count dropped and I had to be put back in the hospital and given 3 units of blood. The doctor says I'm bleeding internally somewhere. They are going to check my stomach but most likely it is from my surgery and maybe leaking into my abdomen. If that's the case they would have to go back in and open me up.

I don't think I can go through that again. Your stories make me think I should have the courage to let them operate again if they need to. I'm kinda numb right now. My DH was admitted to the hospital yesterday and found out he has blood clots in both his lungs.

So it's kind of hard to concentrate. But I wanted you all to know your courage is inspiring.

Glad that you are home after a long stint in the hospital, praying for you that all continues to go well for you and you heal quickly. Peggy showed that this forum does care for all the members by keeping us posted on your situation. I feel this place has become an extended family without "clicks" where you can turn to when facing problems and joys. It disturbs me when one is suffering and elates me when one changes an appliance on their own for the first time, since we've all kind of "been there, done that" it helps knowing we are out there caring for others going through the same thing.

All of this has helped me keep from depression and despair and I feel it's an honor to help others who might be scared or hurt or depressed about the effects of our diseases.

Boy -- -this is exactly how I feel about this forum and all of my new family members!  I just get so much satisfaction to be able to Help others.  It IS an honor for me.  Pay It Back....
