Anybody ever heard what the probability is of scar tissue or adhesion problems with eliostomies or colostomies? Or what mitigating factors increase the possibility?

In this article, a 10 year study showed 18% of people who had a colectomy ended up with a small bowel obstruction due to adhesions:

I recently had a small bowel obstruction caused by adhesions from my colectomy. The surgeon told me that anytime anyone has abdominal surgery, scar tissue can grow beneath the surface and attach itself to organs and cause problems.
There is also the problem of scarring inside the intestines from Crohn's, which can cause a narrowing of the intestine and could eventually lead to a blockage.
I hope that helps answer your questions.

Basically, the more surgeries you've had, the more scar tissue you will likely have. Some are more prone to scar tissue than others as well.

I have scar tissue due to scleroderma, an autoimmune disease. My esophagus has adhessions/scar tissue and I have had it stretched a few times to help with swallowing. I know that this is not the same as scar tissue from surgey, but I thought I would let you know of other ways that someone can have scar tissue. HisWill
