Does anyone else pass any mucus balls?

I was wondering if anyone else pass mucus balls from their rectum? I do and it is very painful. I know this is fairly normal. I still have my rectum intact, but as you are aware the muscles are very weak and passing anything is pure agony. The 1st was a yr after the first surgery. They were half the size of a golf ball. Then no more for 6months. They seem to happen every 6 months then nothing until january when i passed a total of 8. I got suppositories and as yet not had to use them although i feel i might need them soon as my back is very sore. I was just wondering if this will continue all my life?

I only have a temp ille. I do pass mucus from time to time. The other day, I passed something like alien rocks. The looked a little like garlic. I had plenty of blood on the tissue but not in the toilet. The pain was remarkable. I called the doctor on call and he didn't seem to be concerned about it at all. Then again, my doctor does not seem to be too concerned about any of my symptoms. Hope you find relief.

Hi GT....after I had my colostomy back in Oct. I started passing mucous, called my surgeon about it and he said to give myself a Fleet emema every couple of weeks.......Have done so but not that often now and haven't seen any mucous at all for a while. You might call your ostomy nurse or your surgeon and check with him/her.

Thanks for the replies. I knew i wouldnt be the only one. Im sorry for you dandbj,i know what it is like not having a doc who is concerned at all. Im lucky that my GP and Surgeons are never blase about any of my questions. All i can say is i wish they lived a day in our shoes and their opinions would change dramatically!!!!! Its not the fact i pass these mucus balls its the blooming pain along with it. Sorry im asking all these questions but im new to the forum. I have never spoken to anyone in the last 5yrs that has an illeostomy. cant seem to spk to anyone in the UK. i think being British (although im Scottish) we tend to be too polite to talk about anything to do with the TOILET area. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this, but am glad you found a place where you can talk with other ostomates about these issues. Welcome! We talk toilet 24/7! :-)

I had my ileostomy for 8 months before having my rectum removed, and I would pass liquid mucus, but never a mucus ball. That does sound painful. sad I hope you find some answers that will bring you relief.

Yes, every couple of months I pass something (not in the shape of a golf ball however-that sounds painful!). It first happened when I was in the hospital and the nurses were baffled on how it could happen, they kept telling me I wasn't hooked up. I thought something was wrong. It wasn't until I joined this forum that I learned it was a fairly common occurence (which was confirmed by the GI doc).

I was told that mine would continue as long as I had the ileo. I hope you can find a way to make the "passing" more comfortable.

I too have been passing liquid through my rear end. I just hard j-pouch surgery 3 weeks ago and currently waiting for the last phase. Just in the last two days I have had urgency ever hour. when I go , only a little comes out. Its clear and watery. IS THIS NORMAL? I never had chunks come out.

hi all, i had my colostomy take down february this year and i had lots of painful mucus, clear stool, etc. Is all coming together now but it is very painful, Doctor said is normal and it will take 1 to 6 months to be normal. I hope this helps
