Eeek! Jpouch surgery in three weeks!

My 2nd step is finally almost here. On May 30th I go in to have the pouch formed. I'll still be an ostomate, though - I'll have a loop ileo for two months. But after THAT - no more bag! Yikes!

I'm nervous but evcited, too. I'm hoping this surgery goes easier than the first, since I am actually healthy going into this one.

Anyone here have a loop ileo? Any advice?

I have one right now and its not too bad. The problem i had was the ostomy does not stick out very far and would tend to drain under the bag. This would cause me great iratation and pain. My Et nurses suggested i use a wafer and a belt to help push the ostomy out. this worked great. I think you should have a belt on order. I had the regular ostomy before and it was easier to manage. This one is tricky for me. i glad it is only tempory. Walking right away and staying positive has helped me. Treat the nurses well and they will treat you well. good luck and god speed. Westy

Other then chronic burning and high output when exercising, I had no problem with the temp ileo. Don't be surprised if you see blood or stool coming out of your new pouch. This is normal but most surgeons don't tell this to their patients. The temp ileo is temp so do expect it not to be perfect but just find ways to manage it.
