Hi everyone,

So the summer is nearing and I'm dreading it!!!!  How do u wear a bathing suit with high output stoma?? I definately can't wear a stoma cap!!! The bag fills quickly so it would be soooo noticeable. Any advise on what I can wear or what I can do?? I'm going to Las Vegas next week and I need help.  Everyone is looking forward to laying by the pool and I'm freaking out about it.  Please help!!

Have you thought about buying a sundress of sorts? I bought a really cute one the other day at wal-mart and it seems to me it would be perfect for that- it's short enough so your legs could get sun, it's got spaghetti straps and is a thinner material, so you could lay out in that with your bathingsuit underneath and get sun without anyone being able to notice.

Try eating something you know will slow the output, like oatmeal or a banana. Try to stay away from caffeine and sugar and carbonated beverages. Don't skip meals, just be cautious --- what goes in must come out!!!

you could take a few immodium before you go out, dont do that all the time of course though I went on the beach last year shortly after my surgery and i was having alot of output but it didnt' show. Try using the mini bag, and if you are at a pool it shouldnt be a big deal to go to a batrhoom.
like peggy said though, dont' skip meals that makes you gassy.

Definately watch what you eat/drink!  Also, I bought a cute "tankini" type suit from Lands End...it has a skirt(with bathing bottoms attached) and a matching spaghetti strap top.  The top and bottoms meet in the middle so nothing shows and the BONUS is that the skirt bottom conceals the pouch when it fills.  Since the first suit, I've purchased other tops (most department stores have mix/match suits now) that match the bottoms so I don't feel like I am always wearing the same suit.

Don't stress over it...Have A Great Time!  I'll be there in two weeks and looking forward to it, too!

I have the skirt type bathing suit but all one piece and it covers the bag. I like to use the big long high output bag and wear it across my belly...from stoma on the right to the left. This way it evens out the side bulge all across! I can go longer without empting. We went tubing down the river here in Texas and the heat and water didn't bother my barrier. I use the Sure Seal Rings by Active Lifestyle Products. I still have the same barrier/wafer on from last Sundays river tubing. It seals out all water and you can see clearly if you have a leak from the wafer! When I'm swimming or in the water, or long bike rides, I wear the small and big one on top of each other. I get the big bags from Coloplast. Have fun on your vacation and be glad you don't live in the bathroom! Enjoy life now....

If you buy a one piece with a skirt that has two separate layers, the bulge will not show at all.

the one i have is two pieces, i think one pieces are too much trouble, i safety pinned the top to thebottom, just to make sure it wouldn't ride up and show while i was on the beach!

All the above suggestions for a lose fitting bathing suit are right on! However, I have a question....don't they have bathrooms near the pool? I don't know what caused your ostomy, but if you're like a lot of us, before your ostomy you would have been worried how close the bathroom is. Or you'd be concerned because you'll have to use the bathroom 20 times. I think you're going through what a lot of us go through at first......your worrying about things that really won't realistically be a problem. Don't allow yourself to place mental limitations on yourself. We've all done it! And, just for the record, before I moved from New york I used to go to the beach(and in the water) all the time. Wear a suit that isn't too tight and no one will ever notice...not even when the suit is wet. Have a great time, and put 5 bucks on Black for me!

im having the same concerns my self for an upcoming family reunion, i want a swimsuit, but i was always the one who wore the bikini! u know the itty bitty one lol, this is a huuuuuge change for me, i still want to look cute, i'm only 26 and i dont want an old lady swimsuit, i was thinking about trying one with the cut out sides lol since my stoma is in the front lol. i dont know but i have to figure it out by july.

Can someone tell me how these sure seals work?
