Hi all.

I have been on the UC forum for quite some time now fighting ever-worsening Ulcerative Colitis, but it seems I have lost the battle to deal with it via medication and now require surgery.

I am currently in hospital in Brisbane Australia as my body is unable to get the nutrition it needs from normal food, and they are scheduling surgery for somewhere around 3 weeks from now.

I am wondering if any of you have had, or any of you know someone who has had surgery for UC (Colectomy?) in Australia, preferably Brisbane.

I'm scared stupid and really need someone to talk to about this - finding it really hard to come to terms with and really fear the surgery.

well not in austraila, but i have had the surgery and i will talk to you on here if you need to talk!
I know you are scared, and i dont' blame you it's a horribly scary thing to go through. But please remember that this is NOT the END of your life. It's the BEGINNING of the rest of your life!
I'm not gonna lie and say the surgery is all cotton candy and fluffy clouds, it's not. But the surgery pain is temporary, it will go away, and you get lots and lots of drugs in the hosptial, lol. And the UC pain was forever, try looking at it that way.
Also, i am sure you are worried about people knowing, they won't unless you tell them! i have had mine for over a year and noone has noticed yet. And i still wear my regular clothes and all that stuff.

I'm in Perth and had my surgery 32 years ago due to UC, at Princess Margaret Hospital, the children's hospital here. I'm more than willing to share my experiences and 'chat with you if you'd like :)
