Hi All -
I've been off in the world but I wanted to check in with all my friends and fellow ostomates. I started irrigating a fw months ago after getting directed by Shaz and others to resources and having a "training" session with my ET nurse. It's going fabulously. Oddly enough, I work in a hospital and whenever i eat hospital food I get a "breakthrough" a.k.a. diarrhea, so I've started packing lunch, other than that my colostomy is as predictable as cable television. I'm no longer wearing a bag, I have these little patches. Being a cheapskate means that I eventually figured out I could just buy big band-aids (i'm so serious) and slap those on after irrigation and shower and mostly forget the darn thing is there. My E.T. nurse introduced me to ampatch, they make stoma covers that aren't all bulky and they have a new one that is gas permeable so now I'm really happy. The great thing is that I can wear skintight clothes and there is no evidence of anything. i was talking to a nurse friend of mine and she was inquiring about if I planned on reversal and i couldn't say it sounded like the thing for me. i've never had such a an easy, simple, predictable life before and I'm not giving it up for anything less than iron-clad, signed-in-blood assurances like life without ostomy will be as good as life with ostomy.
I hope all of you are well and I'm totally available to answer questions about irrigation. It's fabulous.
