Scar tissue (adhesions) internally can affect anyone, but that doesn't mean that Everyone will be affected adversely. Adhesions are a natural part of healing. Personally, I've had some issues for several years - a couple of times a year. It can be very painful, but I have been fortunate and have not required any abdominal surgery to correct it. I do eat smart tho -- limit myself to a very very small portion or just a few bites of the stuff that I know "might" cause problems. I try not to take chances. But I will have to say, sometimes it just doesn't matter. I can get a kink in my intestine in the middle of the night or maybe an adhesion issue that is pretty painful. Usually, if I push LOTS of fluids, take some relaxants/pain meds, apply heat, and try to keep moving around it will work itself out. My situation is probably
not in the majority but thought I'd give you my 2 cents worth. In fact, I have been fighting something, either a kink or adhesion since Tuesday. I have tried about
everything and it's some better today, but I woke up in the middle of the night last night with really sharp pains. Staying on a very low residue diet, lots of fluids, taking bentyl & xanax, even tried vicodin earlier this week. I just need to believe it will work itself out. I'm not nauseous or fevered... that would be the deciding factor as to when to contact a doctor.
(The reason that I know that I have an abundance of internal adhesions was 2 years after my ileostomy surgery, I had to have a hysterectomy. When they opened me up, both ovaries were enveloped by adhesions - the doctors told me that they hadn't had a case quite like that before. So, I know that I am SPECIAL!!!)
