  Am back :-)   I posted new pics on photobucket..journey_2005  password krystal.  Am just wondering..are there others out there that have stomas that look abnormal?  I have spoken to my stoma nurse way back when I was having problems no help.  That little hill or bugle when it builds like that hurts...my surgen says it's normal.. The size of my stoma seems to get bigger not smaller now 13/4 from 1 1/2.

Am beginning to think that when I have a flare up from RA my stoma acts up cry

I viewed your pictures in photobucket. You poor thing! It looks like it is painful. Do you have hernias? How long have you had your stoma? Have you had another colorectal surgeon look at it or a different ET Nurse? I've heard that coughing and sneezing can certainly push the stoma out further. Are you wearing a hernia belt or special modified briefs? I have a ventral hernia. I found wearing a hernia belt was very uncomfortable and kept riding up my back. Modified briefs work best for me. I normally buy the Barely There brand in firm.

I understand how you'd want answers.

Hello Newbeginning,

I just viewed your pics on photobucket and also would recommend a second opinion. I believe I would want to know what the bulge is as well esp. if it hurts at all. Are you eating a regular diet? Does this bulge occur when you stick to soft foods? The reason I am asking is that you mention: "when it builds like that hurts..." so I am wondering if you have an obstruction right behind the stoma - like food slows down it's transit causing this bulge. That can also be painful.

I've never had a hernia but maybe others who have will take a look at the pics and comment on them.

Hang in there .. maybe we can give you some ideas. Do you have other colorectal surgeons in your area that you can seek a 2nd opinion from?

Thanks for responding..I was beginning to think I was loosing it. Yes, I did see another GI Doc. Said he could switch it to the other side but...it could happen again..I have in the pass used a hernia belt. I would use it when I slept..didn't last long. and i also wear the modified briefs. I have noticed the slow transition with my bowels and the pain in my lower back that makes me bend over and if home i go lay down when my bowel are on the move. I will be seeing another GI doc on Monday and i will be taking pics with me.
