Need to lose weight!!

Well the good news is I am feeling 100% terrific.  So much so that I have packed on about 40 lbs. in a over a year since my surgery.  I know its because I am able to eat anything I want and not be sick.  The first year I just put it out of my mind because my surgeon said it would take about a year to totally recover from the surgery.   But now eating is all I think about, I guess 4 years of not being able to eat has really taken its toll mentally.  So now all I want to do is eat.   Have any of you experienced huge weight gain after your ileostomy?  If so what did you do to control your eating.  I know it seems kind of petty but I can't believe I'm a fat ileostomate, lol.

I understand. I gained too. I gained like 26 lbs (from my lowest to my highest) in just 7 months. I ended up loosing 10 lbs because I joined a program that encouraged 6 small meals/snacks a day. I did not stick with it 100% but did still loose weight. I knew I needed to loose before I had step 2 of my surgery (which was 3 weeks ago). Anyhow, the diet is:
breakfast: protein, fat, grain, frut/veg
snack: fruit/veg, protein
lunch: protein, fat, grain, frut/veg
snack: fruit/veg
dinner: protein, fat, grain, frut/veg
It is suppose to speed up the metbolize. Like any diet, though, it is a diet......kinda tough to follow. Especially when you have been deprived of eating all the fun stuff when you have UC. Trust me........I understand exactly how you feel.

I am with you on this one!
8 Years of not being able to eat anything at all hardly really took it's toll and now that i can eat, that's all i do!
Alot of my problem is drinking things though too. Like soda and juice, and i can drink tea now, and i love tea, lol.
I have been going to the gym and all, but i havent' really changed my eating, cause i am pretty much wanting to stay where i am, if i lose some weight that would be great, but i am going to the gym so i can keep eating what i want, lol.
After i had my son, (i was still sick) i lost all that weight, like 60lbs, in about four months, all i ate was ham and tuna, and i have tried to do that again,but now that i can eat other things i just can't bring myself to do that!

But anyway, the only way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more.
Give up the sodas, or juice or whatever, and drink lots of water.
Random thing here,drinking DIET soda actually makes you gain weight.

I feel it's doubly hard b/c when I was sick I could eat whatever I wanted (though I didn't eat much) and lose weight and now I want to eat and everything sticks! Grr! Plus, I hate healthy food. Exercise is wonderful but unless you change your eating the weight really won't go anywhere.
