Janie,
what do mean 124 markers???? was that just a typing mistake on your part?? cause the capsule has only 24 markers in it... how many capsules did you swallow??? LOL i was laughing out loud at your surgoen's gokes about some of the markers stayed from the last test 10 mons ago... this guy is really funny!!
i'm so glad to hear about your esophagus, i hope you don't have any problems with that. say, is it possible that maybe after surgery you won't even need the Protonix...?
i don't vomit either, and i suppose it's a good sign that shows we don't have a lazy stomach or lazy small intestine. but i hope after the large is gone we don't have any additional probs.
i think he was being really fair by offering you to get another opinion. he sounds like a very honest dr./person. i like him!!
i'm also very glad he's optimistic.
please DON'T think of the worse, Janie . you have to be positive. the chances this could happen is very rare!!!! you're still young and have lots and lots of years to spend AND to even see your grandchildren graduate from college!!!!
you know, the GIs are always the ones against this surgery. mine has always tried to claim against it too. as for continues visiting to the gi, well, as long as there are probs., there's a need to see the dr., you know..., BUT lets hope non of us will ever have to see the gi ever again. but honestly, we have to be realistic and we can't expect that after such a major surgery we won't have ANY probs. i can always hope i'm wrong... but it's most likely we'll have some issues, at least during the first year or so. at least lets hope they're not major probs.
all in all, it's sounds like your visit to the surgoen went very well. sounds very encouraging.
one thing i think you should really ask your surgoen is about "sepra film" and "adept" - these are very important substances that should be used at the end of the surgery in order to prevent scar tissue/adhesions. it's expansive though, but really worth it!! try to google these names and see what you can learn about it. also ask your surgoen what he thinks of it. i asked 4 colorectal surgoens and they all praised it, and said it's very important to use them. i don't know why surgoens don't tell us about it themselves, and only if you found out about it on your own and ask for it, then the hosp. would order it for you.
honestly, your surgoen sounds like a great guy to me !!
sue,
yes, i feel axactly like you. i can take the laxatives at the weekends, but it's not enough. if i don't eat much and keep empty during the week, then it's better, not perfect - there's still pain, but it's better. but if i just eat the smallest meal, then the pain is unbearable. so like you, i just try not to eat much. the laxatives are less affective as time goes by that's for sure.
as for your question about how i dealt with my CI during all the 15 years.... well... that's a long and unique story. i've never mentioned it on here before b/c of the reason it is a long story. i've never met ANYONE who dealt with this prob. the way i did, i'm kind of embarrased, cause my "method" of dealing with this prob. is really strange, but since you asked, then i'll tell you all about it.... well, i'm 35 years old. the prob. started when i was 20 years old. it wasn't so bad like it is now. i was starting to go to school and working and i didn't even notice that i don't go to the loo for a bm. i just noticed that i leaked urine during the day - very small drops here and there, but it made me feel firlthy within 10 minutes after i take a shower, so i went to a urologist who ran some tests and found nothing. today i understand that it was the stools from not going for so long to the b/r that was pressing on my pelvic and causing the presure on my bladder that lead to the leak. as time went by it started to be difficult. and then i discovered that cigarretes are helping with bms. i noticed that if i have my breakfast and smoke a cigarret right after, it actually causes me to have a bm!! but if i don't do that, i can go on like 3 weeks without a bm!!!!
anyway, i was so happy, so i started doing that every morning. at first a couple of inhales were enough to make me go and it was A LOT coming out. i was soooooooo pleased. BUT as time went by, a couple of inhales weren't enough, so i had to smoke the whole cigarret, and later on one cigarret wasn't enough so i took another one and was smoking in chains till i reached the point i had to smoke like 10 cigarret one after another till i get to feel the urge, it's crazy, i know... but i was totally against laxatives and somking was my only relief. enemas weren't helping since the stool doesn't reach the rectum. only the cigarrets were able to cause the stool to reach the rectum. i did tried some lax', but they all made me feel crampy all day, and the cigaretts gave me a better result.
but after i reached the point when i had to smoke 10!!!! i started to look for help. today the cigarrets don't help at all anymore and i just found some laxatives that work o.k so far. my lungs are not so fine least to say, so i really have to stop smoking all together!!
so you all probably think i'm crazy by now with my unique "method"... i don't do it anymore though since it stopped working for me anyway...
i'm glad you found this site too, sue. i was greatful to find it and to finally feel that i'm not alone.
now, i really think i broke a record with the length of this post!!!!
sorry girls
