hi

can anyone help? my husband has Crohns and as a result 8 years ago had an ileostomy. he also has a mucous fistula just above this. he had many problems with the surgery and was in hospital for over 6 months.  over the last couple of weeks he has had bleeding from the mucous fistula and his back passage, together with some bowel movements about once a day. because the original surgery was such a mess he has a lot of adhesions and the surgeon said that he couldn't have any more operations.  does anyone know what could be causing the bleeding? thank you

I know I answered your question over on the Crohn's board, but I had another comment...I always hated the "bm's", so to speak, that I would get with my loop ileo...so I spoke to my CR Surgeon who said he could put a couple stitches in and that would keep stool from going into that part...It wasn't a permanent fix, but I'd go about once a year for him to put new stitches in (they eventually fall out). It doesn't hurt and only took a minute!

Now, that takes care of the stool part, but the mucous is inevitable and it is normal to have some blood but if it becomes more than you think is normal, call his doc.

thank you. i really appreciate you taking the time.  we are going to the consultant next week.  they are going to have a look via a camera what is in his colon.  they want to remove it but are reluctant because of the many problems in the original operation.  the important thing is to see what's causing the bleeding and discharge. hopefully it's an infection and not Crohns back to haunt us!
