Hello Everyone
This forum seems to me to be the closest to my problem. I have no ostomies. Yesterday my Doc told me the news, i have anal cancer confirmed from biopsy. Cancer isn't internal but rather an external wart. still have a colonoscopy and cat scans before treatment will begin all within the next week.

A friend refered me here.
Anyway....Time for coffee isn't it?

Hi Surfer Dude!

Welcome! So sorry to hear your news. I had anal cancer diagnosed in 2007. It was found after seeing the doctor for over 6 months for a 'fissure' that would not heal. They finally did a biopsy and it was squamous cell carcinoma - is that what yours is? Anyway I had 6 weeks of radiation every day and chemo until I lost too much weight (I weighed 72 pounds). Since I had Crohn's disease anyway, the surgeon and oncologist agreed that it was best to remove the anus and forego the rest of the chemo so I have a colostomy. I know a couple of people that have made it through just fine without ending up with an ostomy though. I am happy to say that I am cancer free so far!

I wish you the best of luck. I just remember how scared I was when I found out. I was lucky to have such good friends and family but I wish I would have known about this group when I was going through it. PLEASE keep us posted concerning how you are doing.

welcome SurferDude! You have found a great site to help you through this time of treatment...are you from California? I always associate surfing with CA! my daughter just learned last summer and wants to move...

yes that's what it is, squamous cell carcinoma. 6 months of radiation is a lot so i wonder what it'll take in my case. i don't have crohn's so maybe i'll have it a bit better. i have no idea what to expect and that's a big concern, worry, fear. at the moment i'm on auto-pilot you know like i've been left out of something important in my life. at least i have good pain meds now. last night i slept the night through pain free for the first time in nearly 2 weeks. i'll make the decision about whether to undergo radiation/chemo after the cat scans and colonoscopy and i see the onchologist and i have no idea what i'll see the oncologist but my surgeon has talked with the oncologist. i'm pretty tired and worn out and don't know if i can deal with all this least of all afford it.

You have hit the potluck finding this site! I hope you find some comfort with your pain meds and that we can help you with coping. We are a nice group of folk and a really good group when you need a shoulder to lean on! I also have crohn's, no cancer. just wanted to stop by and say hello.

SurferDude ... how are you doing now? I found that taking Ativan took a lot of the edge off my worries. Also the radiation was 6 WEEKS not months so at least that's a little better! I'll be thinking of you.

just got back from colonoscopy and the news is most excellent, there's no polyps. the doc says everything looks very good. HoooooooRaaayyyyyy!
six weeks sounds much better than 6 months. i'll can do 6 weeks standing on my head.
so now it'll just be the wait til next tuesday and the cat scans.

hehehe i'm still feeling the anesthetic. typing is kinda strange when your fingers can't coordinate with your eyes.

PS...i want a pickle.
