Dr gave bad news about reversal/ scar tissue

Yesterday had very servere pain in upper part of obdomen....After my emergency surgery on jan 12 when I got my colostomy and spent 26 days in hospital with paritnitus. I had a cat scan which showed no change but still lots of fluid in my abdomen.....Not sure how long it will take the fluid and the swelling to go down....My docter told me today I had so much scar tissue surgery wouldnt be as easy as he would like it to be.....He is very good, however my husband and I are thinking about contacting a specilist which does reversals.....Has any of you had scar tissue and then had a sucessful reversal....? Need advice...My reversal will be 6 months away, however, i may want a second opinion...Maggie...coping and worried in tennessee

maggie--I've been in your shoes with fluid/infection in my abdomen...I did have a JP Drain put in for three weeks, tho...I think we all have a lot of scar tissue which would make for a longer surgery, but it doesn't make a reversal impossible! Definitely see a specialist even if you have to travel to see one!!!!!

Where is the specialist......r they in clevland or dallas as i think i read on here......Thanks im hanging in and just so thankful my scan turned out as good as it did.....was afraid of the worst.....but im trying to be optomistic 4m here on .......thank u for making me feel better...lol...maggie Its good to be hear where i can get more help....My docter was impressed with my joining the forum............maggie

I am sorry to hear you are having problems. I was forced to get a colostomy after my colon was knicked during a hysterectomy for uterine cancer. It was meant to be a temp. and was to be reversed after 1 yr of being cancer free. A went through chemo and radiation treatment and then went into surgery a year later to get hooked back up and they were not able to. I had too much scar tissue from the radiation in the rectal stump area. It was very frustrating to leave the hospital with the colostomy and all the harware that somes with being an ostomate. What I am very thankful for though is that 8 years later, I am well and cancer free. Yes...I have the colostomy and always will. I have chosen to live life to the fullest and have found my new normal. I hope that all will turn out for you but if the reversal is not successful...life goes on. I only found this forum last week and wished I had it 8 years ago. You all are great people and offer do much support!
