Excessive Mucous

Is there a remedy to stop excessive mucous (slimy jelly like substance) excreting from bottom once a colostomy has been performed. Active Crohns and excretion not usually so bad - but seems to be excessive now. Very irritating to the skin. Taking Flagyl, Cipro and Imuran.

I think the only remedy (assuming the meds are failing you) is to remove the rectum and anus.

meds worked a while for me, but then one day they just stopped and the mucous just kept coming!...are you keeping the detached colon/rectum for a reattachment?

My rectum is out and I still get mucous. It is normal but can be annoying with the irritation. I wipe with preperation H wipes because it's medicated and also apply calmoseptine lotion on it. It will help.

Thank you so much for all the responses.

There is still a large open wound from the last fistula/abcess scraping/operation and is so large and deep it has to be cleaned and treated by a wound specialist everyday. She has just advised that she has never seen so much mucous being produced before. Taking Imuran and Waiting to start (Remicade - Revellex) which will hopefully clear it up then.
