I have been researching and reading my upcoming surgery of having everything removed. When they put the permanent ileostomy in will they put it in the where the temporary is now or will they have to make a new whole. Also I have read that they can do it laproscopic, can they remove everything like that.

I had a temporary ileostomy before having a proctocolectomy with permanent ileostomy. My surgeon kept the ileostomy the same and did an open surgery. I know they can do it laproscopically, so you can talk to your surgeon about it.

I am similar to Cecilia where I had the temp ileo first so they kept the same placement. I have had many surgeries so the option for lapro was never there...that is definitely a question for the c/r surgeon.

My perm. is on the opposite side and mine was done open--I never even thought to ask if it could have been lapro.

Thank you......they opened me up to do the temp ileo so I assume they will cut the same place. I just thought it was cool.

My perm ileo is on the same side as the temp ileo.  All of my surgeries (resections before I had the perm ileo) have been open surgeries.  I don't think there was even laproscopic surgeries being done for CD in 1984.... along with remicade not even existing!!
