I had my surgery just over 5 weeks ago and have my first period since then, and it is the worst pain I have had in the past 5 weeks!!!! Has anyone else had that and does it continue like that or will the next one settle down a bit. This is worse than surgery pain!!! x

I had mine in the hospital (even tho I HAD JUST had it before surgery!!) and it was heavier than normal...I have to say that it isn't "normal" to this day, it's been 1 year and 3 months since my proctocolectomy...
If it is off the charts pain wise, call your doc, just to be sure...

I'm sorry you're in so much pain.
That never happened to me after any of my surgeries. I think you should let your surgeon know. If he doesn't have any insight, you can call your gynecologist. Hope you feel better soon!

after surgery i started my period right away even though it had only ended the day before surgery! and i have no idea if it was bad or not, cause i was sitll in horrible pain from surgery. But i did bleed alot more. And since then my periods have been crazy! And the pain was much worse for the first couple of months, then the pain slacked off but my periods were still so wacky to the point that i paid out of pocket last week to get a mirena IUD put in!!!
A major surgery or illness or steroid use can really do crazy stuff to your period, most of the time it goes back to normal though. I was just unlucky on that one, lol.

I had my period 2 weeks after my proctocolectomy. It was terrible, awful! I had never had one like that EVER! I just had my surgery so I can't tell you how the rest of them have gone. I am on the pill and when I was in the hospital they really messed up my schedule, I thought maybe that was why. I hope the next ones aren't so bad. You aren't alone. I attributed the extra pain to everything still trying to heal down there. I hear there can be extra scar tissue which can makes things painful. I hope this helps. I hope you feel better!!!

glaciergrl--just be aware that sometimes the transit time for ostomates is too quick for the pill...if you have issues, you may have to change methods!
