Maggie, When I had my ileostomy reversal, I also had a partial hysterectomy, and stents placed. I was in the hospital for eight days. I had surgery on Monday, and spent from monday afternoon, until around 1pm friday in the surgical ICU, and then went to the regular surgical floor. the partial hysterectomy, was due to all the adhesions I had, from the first surgery. It wasn't planned, but I understand why the doctor did it. I'm 44 years old, and not in a relationship of any kind, so I wasn't at all upset. The SICU nurse, asked me the night of surgery, why I'd had it, and I looked at him like he'd grown horns or something. I didn't even know i'd had one until then. My family knew, but hey I was out of it on drugs, and if the doctor told me, I don't remember it. My doctor was totally awesome!! I have nothing but good things to say about
him. He called my mom one evening, to give her an update, and also told her when he would be in the next day, so she could meet with him. He then went out to the waiting room, and found her, instead of sending a nurse, or blowing her off. Did I have a perfectly smooth recovery??? Heck no!! But my pain was very well controlled, except once, and that was the nurses fault. I wont go into details, the pain was quickly controlled, after we had a discussion. I had excellent care. I did have an NG tube, for two days, I got it around noon wednesday, and it came out around noon friday. That was the worst part!!
What suggestions do I have? If they don't provide remote controls for the tv's, buy a universal remote and take it with you. WALK, walk walk, and walk some more. Will it hurt?? heck yeah, but it is worth it.
good luck!!
