18 have a ileostomy..i have a question

okay I'm 18, I had my ileostomy almost a year now well about to be in like a month.. I wanna go swimming for fourth of July but, my ileostomy bag doesn't stay on after it gets wet. I've tried some pretty weird things to try to keep it on.lol. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

I haven't been able to swim yet but I am planning on it soon. I know Hollister has smaller bags that are for swimming. You could try calling where ever you get your supplies and see if they have any alternatives.

Also, I was told to wear a one piece or a tankini. I haven't tried any on and I really need to get to that. But I would plan on changing bags right after the swim or even using single use bags.

If the problem is the seal, make sure you have a good amount of paste around your stoma. I am actually getting itchy around the seal because I think I put too much on.

The wafer I wear stays on when I swim. It's the Coloplast Assura Extended Wear wafer. I live in Florida and swim a lot, so it's been great to find a wafer that doesn't fall off when it gets wet.

Others have recommended using Glad Press n' Seal or Sure Seals (which you order with your ostomy supplies) when they shower or swim, but I've never tried them, so I don't know how well they work. Maybe you can try them out in the bathtub.

I hope you find something that works for you, so you can go swimming on the 4th! :-)

are you still using skin prep that can make it come off easily
