What do i do the day before surgery?

I know my dr will specify once i get closer, but my surgery part 1 is september 11, and i am working right up to that date, do i need to take the day off work the day before? i know i have to drink that stuff "halflitley" wrong spelling..

on the RX it gives you choices whether to start at noon or 4pm the day before and then i am really confused because they hospital told me not to eat after midnight the day before surg..of course im not going to eat! LOL

my question is then:

1. do you recommend not going to work the day before to prepare

2. do i need to be COMPLETELY empty, like a colonoscopy? it would make sense, i dont want anything leaking inside when they slice it...

3. how mobile are you they days after the surgery? you have to have help going pee etc?

I was already out of work before surgery because of how sick I was. But besides that, it was basically just like the prep for a colonoscopy. So if I was working, I probably would have worked a half-day.

As for the days after surgery, I had a catheder (sp?) for a couple of days. I still got up to walk around a little bit, but they left the catheder in until I could get in and out of bed easier.

I couldn't go to work the day before. The prep stuff wiped me out from running to the bathroom and draining energy.

I got told the cleaner the safer for them seeing what they are doing and the risk of infection from poo that could get things infected or messy. I hear they pump water around but still..

After surgery I was in bed for a day and a half with legs movers? and a catheter so didn't have to get up to go to the bathroom. After they said the more I walked the faster I would get better so I got up 3x a day for little walks around the unit. I guess it gave me goals and kept me from going stir crazy.

i would take the day before off, just casue you will be in the bathroom all day!

I had a catheter for 2 days i think. And didnt get up at allthe day i had surgery, i was too drugged and ended up having to have blood so i was really weak.
But i hear that some people get up andstart moving that day.

Take the day off! Try to relax, take a nap etc! You will need all your energy for recovering. Do the colon prep to desrease your risk of infection as mentioned already! I had an infection and it wasn't fun! Good luck! I'll be thinking of you!

Id take the day off for several reasons. Most important it will be your last day of freedom for at least 5 days, cause your gonna be stuck in the hospital. However, if one had to work, you could easily work the entire day. Just start your colon prep as soon as you get off work.
