Here's what I've been up to recently! Feeding my little herd of apparently all Does lol. I drove the tractor out there with the bucket full of apples, roughly ~1000lbs or so. This is what's left after two weeks, so I decided to top it up with one bag worth. Muzzleloader season is upon us now, but get this, all this effort and I have to work, argh!!!

Any other hunters with ostomies here? I could never be doing all this if I didn't have 'da bag!!~Matt

I don't hunt, but my daughter doessmile Her best friend was done by 8:30am with her 'prize' on Saturday...and these are two VERY GIRLY GIRLS...who are awesome shots, too!

Glad you are able to get out and enjoy your hobbies...ya gotta love good 'quality of life'!!

Look, I know someone has to hunt deer, or their population will be out of control.....
But
Isn't it cheating when you feed them first.
Seems so aweful. I feel sick for them.

no you feed them to get them to come to the right place, so you can control the population, at least thats what is done around here. Other wise you woudl just be wandering around for hours hopign to catch them.

Oh i know ron,lol. I got lots of hunters in the family, I am from NC you know! LOL!!! i was just explaining why the food was used sometimes.
You should come hang out at my house, you could sit on my front porch with your bow and get 10 or 11 they dont even move, they stood there one day while i mowed the yard!

We live on about 100 acres in NC and the deer are quite plentiful. We could just sit on the front porch or back deck and hunt if we wanted. I enjoy hunting but haven't been able to this year. Hoping next year for better health so I can get down to some serious hunting. Would also love to take out some coyotes! We have several packs running on our property and they are PAIN!

As summerstorm stated the deer literally will just stand there and look at us. We also have a lot of wild turkey. They also just casually stroll through our fields and even right in our front yard just feet from the house. Now when turkey season comes in they seem to mysteriously disappear into the woods.

Ohhhh just talking about it...I need to get better so I can get out and have some fun.

Jen what area of NC? I am near Hickory, and im not suprised if you never heard of it,lol.
We have the turkeys too! Everyone in my family sees them all the time, but i have yet to see one! makes me so mad! I did however find a random pheasant, lol.
And we have just started having coyote sightings in the last two years or so. We hadnt worried about them when we had our dog still,a big husky and his friends that ran around with him, lol. But since we had to have him put to sleep i worry about them. We have a cat and i have a small child who likes to play outside.

We have a few deer, mostly moose up here in Alberta. And man, are they stupid.

Hi, awesomeame! I'm a 2nd year deer hunter with Crohns and a permanent ileostomy. Nice to meet someone I have lots in common with (good and bad:-) ). Where abouts do you live (generally of course) in the US? I have a black powder muzzleloader and a bow (haven't had the opportunity to use the bow yet) currently in my toy box. Haven't had any luck this season even though I went on a 2-day hunting trip with some buddies. Plan on going though next year to trail ride and hunt. I agree about "da bag" b/c if I haden't had it done I might still be sicker'n a dog and still searchin for the magical med combo. Still, sometimes I really wanna rip it off and throw it away for good! Not feeling great tonight so bye for now, Tony

Hey havacchronie-I'm in southern ontario. We just had muzzleloader season last week so I was out and about for that too.

Just to give some perspective I'm 6'1" 190lbs

I have to LOL at nascaron's PETA explanation!! Baiting here is perfectly legal as long as you're not shooting over the bait.

Nope...not all all. I just love My Cousin Vinny. In our last house, my wife and I would plant dozens of flats, throught the property, knowing it ws only a matter of time until the deer got to them. As far as I'm concerned, I hope you bag your states limit!!!

Chassity... Some states don't allow hunters to bate deer with food... some states do. When it's lawful to use food to bring deer to a certain spot it merely helps the hunter harvest the animal. States with large deer population will allow bating to help hunters control the population so deer won't starve through the winter.

Summerstorm... There are many other ways to get close enough to deer without using food or just wandering around for hours. A little bit of scouting can turn up signs of deer travel patterns, etc. hoof marks, droppings, rubs, and scrapes are the most widely used for patterning a deer so you can be where they are. A game camera is also a very good tool... they tell you where and when. I hunt mostly with a bow and arrow so I'm usually within 20 yards of the deer... that is difficult to do without being detected. I didn't mean to turn this into a hunting leason, but I wanted to share that we (hunters) aren't just stupid idiots that wander around the woods clueless hoping to see a deer... well at least some of us hunters don't hunt like that. Using food as bate is just one way.

Summerstorm I live in Mocksville, NC its just 40 minutes east of Hickory. My territory for my job borders catawba county, and I have several friends that live in Hickory. So I have been there many times. Once in awhile I will go shopping there. Sorry I didn't post sooner I am still in the hospital and just read these posts.
