Im not quit finished with this book. its about 300 pages, and Im on 260 now. I decided to buy this book to get another persons take on going from Ulcerative colitis, to an Ileostomy, and eventually to a J-Pouch. When I read the reviews, I found that this guy had UC for 2 years, before having his colon out. Ive thought about one day writing my own story of my journey through UC. As some of you are aware, I am having my J-Pouch in 3 procedures, and am currently about a month post op from my second step. Im hoping to have my takedown around March/April. Also I had UC for 10 years, so my story is alot more enormous. One other side note, Im generally a very positive person, and usually can captivate people with my stories.
Here is what I have found from this book:
This guy is the biggest wimp I've ever heard of. He doesnt listen anyones good advice. Therefore he has nothing but trouble from his uc, and eventual Ileostomy. He whines and cries about everything. He acts as if the world is out to get him, and lives his life as if he were dead. I would absolutley never recomend this book to someone recently diagnosed with UC. It would probably make them commit suicide. This guy has no idea how good he has it. He had UC for 2 years, and then was able to get his J-Pouch in 2 procedures. He also only had his ileostomy for 3.5 months. This guy needs to count his blessings for how easy he had it. The only people who would want to read this book is a sucker for sob stories. I could see someone looking at this guy and thinking to themselves "Wow, this guy has had a rough life". All I can say is this guy doesnt know crap. Ive almost died 4 times now from my battle. When I got my colon removed it was because it had ruptured about 36 hours prior, and I was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. My surgery was done at 3 in the morning, while my wife was told that she needs to make plans because it wasnt likely that I would survive.
All this time I have kept a level head. I have never said "Whoa as me". There are people who have it much worse in life than I do. In fact, I love my life. In 3 months or so, I will be living with my functional J-Pouch, and wont look back. So what if I have to deal with an ostomy. At least I dont live in a wheel chair. At least I can still have sex. At least I still have my job, wife, kids, and my life.
Sorry for my rant, but this guy really pisses me off. He needs to come on these forums and see some real people suffering. I remember a post some time back from a lady who sneezed while her bag was off, and "Painted her bathroom brown", and laughed and posted about it. This guy needs to get over himself.
