Chassity, just put the sure seal on when you change, you dont have to do a new one everytime.

I'm so sorry to hear you're having a hard time adjusting to your unplanned ostomy. You should not have to deal with constant leaks. There are a lot of different products out there, and I highly recommend trying them out until you find the right one for you. If you call or visit the manufacturers web sites, they will send you free samples:

I've been using the Coloplast Assura Extended Wear wafer #2833 with matching pouch #13986 for 4 years now and have never had a leak. I shower every day, exercise, go swimming, sleep on my stomach, and still get 7 days wear time. It has been an excellent product for me. The skin prep is built into the wafer, so all I do is put it on dry skin with some Stomahesive paste around the hole in the wafer. It's quick and easy.

I really hope you find the right product for you. It will dramatically improve your quality of life.

Thank you all for assisting. My illio is likely permanent. It is short, button, exit north at skin level. Using Hollister 8631 wound vac is near stoma. Should not have to cut a new hole in each bag in aboout two more weeks!!! Wound should be healed!! So, right now we use the spray and no sting protective wipes and paste around stoma plus we plug the original hole and paste around that as well lasts this way for two or two and a half days but I am constantly checking for leaks!!! Any ideas are welcome. Inow have only one sore spot right near the exit area. I do have itching but if I use powder and then protective wipe etc. bag does not stick.

ok, so you have a sore under the wafer? in that case you are probably gonna have a hard time getting a good seal for now.
After the sore is healed, cut out the wipes and spray, they shorten wear time considerably.
Also, after you put on the wafer and the bag, use the hair dryer on the wafer for a minute or so.
Make sure that the hole is the right size, stomas change size alot in the first six months.

I gave up pain. I gave up reading in the bathroom. I gave up my colon and the cancer in it. I gave up starving. I gave up my job and clients.

The important thing I gained is understanding of what my suffering limits are. Can't believe I waited so long!! I can eat foods I hadn't for years, although I am still worried about blockages sometimes. The appliance and the leaks do take time but not as much as diarrhea everywhere on clothes etc. all the time. Slowly I am getting job back and even a few clients. Have enjoyed free time for the first time in 30 years.

Yeah I think the good out weighs the bad. Hope you can come to a resolution that is good for you.

OK, HELP!!!

My bag needed changed twice yesterday the second time the paste was so adhered to my skin we had a terrible time 2.5 hours worth getting it off and we used lasocaine to deaden the pain because it was pulling that sore skin terribly. How best to get rid of the paste that has been on for only hours??? The nurse said soap and water that did not work!! We got it off painfully and have had a new bag on since 6 AM..when I woke up with a huge mess on my side!!! I just can not see ever leaving the home with this leaking and if I needed to make a change away from home where can  lay for  2 hours changing it??

Please help!!

i have never had it take that logn to change, when we first started and didnt have the hang of it yet we were at like 15 to 30 minutes, but im at like 8 minutes now, and can go faster if needed.
As for the paste thats left on, you are just gonna put more paste on anyway, so dont worry too much about it, just dont put much on the wafer.

Sounds like you have a completely useless stoma nurse.  Never use soap and water - drys the skin out. Get some Apeel spray - that removes the sticky residue and get some proper support fast from a proper stoma nurse!!!

Also it could be you have a small/flat stoma like me - you need Convex type bags - i use Welland. They make your stoma stick out more - othewise you get leaks. Your nurse should guide you as they have to make sure you are ok with them.
