Hi! my husband had a bowel resection/repair done two weeks ago and has a temporary ileostomy bag. We're wondering what the best support/belt system is out there?? He wants something that will support the weight of the bag when there are contents in it and is not large, bulky and hot in warm weather. I found the stealth belt but the guy whose email is listed wont return my emails and apparently doesnt want the order!
i'm tempted to try to make one myself but i cant find any good photos of how the pocket works. i would think if the belt wraps around the flange it would tug on it and be very uncomfortable.
any thoughts/suggestions?
thanks much

You can order decent spandex fabric (try to get breathable fabric) on line and make your own. I cannot sew but made a 'sexy' one out of lace and it only took a few minutes
You might not have to make a pocket...just measure your husband and make it a little smaller...trial and error but so much cheaper!

I do not use a belt and have not had a problem with any leaks. I would say unless you are doing some heavy excersize you may not need one. I have added a sure seal cover to my base and it helps hold things together and makes everything water proof.

My main problem is I can't stand the feeling of the weight of the contents of the bag. Even a little is really irritating. Maybe it's because I am just barely 2 weeks post-op and I need to adjust, but it seems to be kinda bothersome. I don't know, we will see if I get used to it.

It won't be as bothersome as you get further along in your recovery!
You can also support the ostomy pouch with your underwear...just tuck it inside...and you won't notice it:) (I think the boxer briefs are the best ones for guys)

Go to ostomysolutions.com to get the picture.
Then go to tubetops.net to buy.

Bottom of page 8 on this pdf is a picture of the waistband that I am using: http://www.omnigon.com.au/uploads/brochures/Omnigon%20

It's an elastic type material, so it holds everything in/up (so you dont get the pulling sensation as much) when there's stuff in the bag.

I don't like the weight of the bag even a little either, so I made a support out of the bottom of a cotton/spandex singlet, I had in my draw (bonds ladies) I cut the top off it just below the bust line, and made a hole for the base plate of my ostomy bag, so I can have it like a sling, under and over the bag, i also have very sensitive skin and was getting a rash where the bag touched my tummy, so this has now fixed that problem, you can buy a MATERNITY/ PREGNANCY BELLY BAND, for around $5 if you don't have fabric or a boob tube top that is a little smaller than you are around your tummy, and just make a cross cut where your ostomy flange ring will fit, and step into (Fabric inside out) it pull the bag through the cross cut and fit it around the flange then bring the fabric up over the bag, it will support the bag for you, if you need more support then you can tuck it into your undies. It works for me and I have a clean one every day, I would like to buy a stealth belt but a the moment they are to much for me and this is working. I hope this helps, if you are unsure of what i meant let me know and I will email you with a photo.. Maggie
