  So did you have a total colectomy?  Can you tell me how your doing and feeling with your J-Pouch?  Just kind of what you have experienced..

Hi honestwomen 50,

I have suffered from UC for the last 22 years, was dx at the age of 30. the first 15 years I had maybe 7 flares, longest remission was 5 years on azulfidine only. The last 4 years I have been in and out of remissions. I had lymphoma in 2002 and went through CHOP chemo and survived by the grace of God, so because of that I cannot take 6mp, Remicade or Humira because they may cause lymphoma. The last flare I was on oral prednisone for 6 months, plus 2 lialda a day, I went into remission finally in February, weaned off of pednisone, now 3 months later started flaring again. I am so tired of this disease, and I refuse to go back on Prednisone. I am currently on 2 lialda twice a day, and corfoam in the morning. I was also on Rowasa and Canasa but it seemed to make my diahrrea worst.

I see my colo rectal surgeon in Stamford CT on Thursday and I will have a serious talk with him.
I'm scared to have surgery but I can live like this, I make plans and I can't seem to keep them. I am also deficient in calcium, vitamin D and B-12 and tired all the time. When I take vitamins they go right through me.

Salamore  Oh sorry to hear that?  What kind of a surgery do they want to do?  Total colectomy?

My surgeon said I would have to have my whole colon removed and then we could do the j-pouch. Did you have your total colon taken out? I hear most people say they feel so much better and healthier after the surgery because the UC is gone, does that mean that all the manifestations of UC are gone too since you no longer have the disease. And if you don't mind that I ask, do you still have to take any medications after, my surgeon said with the jpouch just immodium.

Salamore  Yes I had a Total Colectomy on Feb 19,2010...when I came out of recovery I knew I was better, did not have that sick feeling that I was so use to.  Nope, dont take any meds for it, feel great and it was the best decision I ever made and they hooked me all back up.

I had CI, and a pelvic floor disorder and a out let prob.  Well they wanted to do bio-feedback for the outlet prob first.  I said no that is not the prob,  so found my own surgeon and asked him to remove my colon because I knew it was not working.  So he did another sitz marker test, went for the for the results and he said your correct and that was a monday and had surgery on Friday....

Good Morning, Honestwoman50,

I am 53 and overweight I just hope they will do the surgery, I will find out more this Thursday.
My GI said he totally understands if I want to have the surgery, now I hope my surgeon agrees.
What is an out let problem? Will you be going for the J-pouch down the road?

You have been so helpful to me, and are giving me hope....
