I had a colectomy on may 25 and been just chilling really. umm im 15 years old and the reason i had the colectomy is because i had UC for 3 yeahs and drungs and mental stuff failed to keep it under control. I know that having the surgery is a huge step into getting better for myself. I had one surgery so far and i have two more one in late august early sept. thats to reconnect things and my last surgery is to just close up my stoma.

Welcome Adam to Healingwell. This is a great website. So, you have an ileostomy right now? I am getting an ileostomy June 21st. How is having an ileostomy? Has it been a hard adjustment? Do you feel better with the UC colon removed? Tracy

il second traceys questions. and welcome Adam.. u r one brave kid!! i hope u r having a speedy recovery.
R u saying that u have had ur colon removed??am a bit confused wat u mean by more surgery and closing up the stoma??

I have a temp iliostomy and am going in in 2 weeks to have my colon removed, therefore making it permanent.
Um is that called a colectomy guys? or a protocolectomy? im confused lol

I have the bag for a few months but after that ill have the stoma closed up and ill be able to poop threw my butt again lol.

It still has its up's and down's living with the bag the only real down part is at first you have to empty the bag alot and once you can eat like before you go less. I dont mind having to go out to places with the bag and ill be honest no one knows you would have the bag unless you showed them. My friends support me all the way with this.

When your getting surgery i would suggest to cut pain down a bit to get an epi-dural. Now ill say this it does hurt to get it but when you get it, it is right before they put you to sleep and your already drugged alot heh.. and you today i dont remember much from when they put it in i dont remember much pain but i'd say the epi-dural is worth it.


Where are you getting surgery at? what drugs do you know they will give you when you wake up just wondering. i got a crap load of morphine. "a button they gave me it for when i wanted it."


I know when anyone gets the surgery your going to feel down atleast once its totally normal, i got help from another kid who was there. His name is Matt i belive he is like 20 or so but still young. At first i thought all he had was the colectomy... he had it indeed but he is sooo much more sick then i would of guessed. yet he had high hopes. which made me kinda get over it because people do have it worse.


I have my colon removed yes, that was one surgery, right now there giving it time so my insides can heal. my next surgery will reconnect my stuff to my butt, but ill still have the bag, after that they open it so i can start going again "pooping out my butt" and at the same time they will close up my stoma.

Adam, I am having surgery at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. I have no idea about pain meds my doc plans on using. I am very nervous about the pain because I am a big baby when it comes to pain. Are you getting a j-pouch?

Adam, Im just looking at your med list and i don't know what viokase is. What's it for?

Welcome, Adam! :-) You're a very brave young man and have an amazing attitude. That's wonderful that you have lots of support from your family and friends.

I agree that nobody can tell I have a pouch under my clothes. I'm very open about it and like to tell people my story, especially since it ends with me being healthy.

Hope you continue to have a smooth recovery.

(Ladies, he definitely had his colon removed. You can actually SEE it on his brother's website!! shocked hahaha) Adam, how did your brother get a photo of it??

Welcome Adam. My son (18) had the exact same surgeries after having three major flares in two years. He is 4 months post having his stoma closed and is doing great! It is a long road but it WILL get better and better. If you have any questions we are happy to help.
