Christine, since you have your pre-op and stoma locator appt all set up, you are probably in the clear. They gave me lots of info at my stoma locator appointment....showed me the bags and went over what is going to happen during the surgery, exactly what I am having down, etc.
They also gave me 2 bags to wear, one on the right and one on the left. This is because I have alot of excess skin and fat at the bottom of my stomach, so my stoma is going to be higher up than normal..almost exactly across from my belly button. She said the bag wouldn't stick any lower. It was great! I am hoping this isn't going to be a problem for me, but since this is temporary, I guess it doesn't matter. I was also marked for my stoma on the right and on the left and this is because the doctor plans to place the stoma on the right, but if he gets in there and there is alot of scar tissue on the right, then he will move it to the left side....
When I went for my pre-op, after my colonoscopy, they drew blood and are now making me wear this red hospital band until my surgery on Monday. They said it is a blood typing band and if I take it off before my surgery, then my surgery could either be canceled, delayed, or I would have to pay more money to have the blood typing redone....
If I were you, I would atleast call the doctors office and see if you are supposed to be doing any type of prep before your surgery though....
It will be a good thing for you to be able to get off of the predisone....those sugar levels don't seem safe!
