Can Ostomates get constipated? Can it cause a blockage?

Hi all,

I just got on a new medication for my bladder problems that lists constipation as a side effect. I have not had much output today and am feeling a little bloated, though not as bad as when I had my obstruction a few weeks ago. I was just wondering what constipation would be like and what the risks are with it...obviously with Crohn's disease I never experienced constipation in my life! I'm kind of nervous and unsure of what I should do.

Grape juice; grape juice; grape juice is what my ostomy nurse recommended and it's always worked for me. Drink eight ounces the first and second hour and then wait about an hour and a half to see if you get results. It's a balancing act not to get yourself into a situation where you're sitting on the loo for an hour draining the bag the whole time but it has never not worked for me. Good luck!
