Well, if they kept your anus and (rectum ?) then I would be almost certain that mucous could form down there giving you the sensation that you have to go. This is pretty much what happens to a lot of folks before they have their takedown for the jpouch.

If you have an end ileostomy, your urge is just from mucous from the unused colon/rectum. If you have a loop ileostomy it is possible some real stool can escape down through one side of the loop and go into the colon and rectum and real stool can be in there. I think, if I remember correctly yours is an end ileostomy so I thing it is likely just mucous.

It's called Phantom rectal pain. It can happen even if your rectum and anus have been removed. Just like when someone has a limb amputated, they can still feel it 'itch', so your body has to get used to the fact it can't go to the loo in the old way, the brain will still send signals that it wants to evacuate stool in the old way even though it can't. The majority of ostomates get it.

I had it for about 5 years after my rectum and anus were removed but over time, it happens less and less until it eventually goes away altogether. The only way I found to relieve it was to go and sit on the loo even though I knew nothing would come of it. It's perfectly normal, annoying, but normal.

     It sure is annoying but I just recently started feeling this way.  After I came home from the hospital, after the big whoosh of foul smelling waste that came out of my vagina, I didn't have that feeling.  What I did have was a pinkish discharge coming out of my vagina (looked exactly like the liquid that came out in the JP tube, which, by the way, was taken out in the hospital about a week after my surgery).  The discharge lasted about four or five days.  My ostomy nurse notified my surgeon but it was on a Saturday and they said to wait and see if it lessened, which it did.  I had some white cells in my urine specimen and was placed on a one week course of Macrobid.  Everything was fine for a spell, then I started with the yellowish discharge.  My surgeon gave me a script for Diflucan (one pill).  This worked also for about two weeks.  Then the discharge came back.  But the only thing which really disturbed me was the bleeding...blood I don't like, that and the feeling of having to poop.  Oh well, hopefully, the CT scan will give us the answers and this can be treated properly .

I have a temporary colostomy, and when I have had that sensation, I actually pass mucous.  There is nothing phantom about it for me, as I have the pieces/parts - they just aren't connected.  The first time it happened, I was surprised by the volume of mucous.

Christine, I hope you get to the root of your issues soon, as the vaginal blood would certainly bother me.
