Colonoscopy with ostomy!?

I am scheduled to have a colonoscopy on wednesday. I've had them before but this will be the first time with an ostomy. I was wondering if the prep is any harder or easier having an ostomy? I use closed ended pouches and have a feeling that I will end up using them all, advise?

I had to prep for a colonoscopy with a temporary ostomy back in 1983 (at age 22). What I remember was that my stool was like hot tea and caused my ostomy bag to leak around the adhesive. Back then all of the pouches were open-ended, so it was just a lot of emptying. Sorry I can't help more. Just be sure you keep yourself hydrated, that's a lot of fluid loss. What prep are they giving you? Good luck.

VERY IMPORTANT......IF YOU HAVE AN ILEOSTOMY....... NO PREP AT ALL NEEDED FOR A COLONOSCOPY.

IF YOU HAVE A COLOSTOMY, THEN I GUESS THEY WOULD HAVE YOU DO SOME SORT OF PREP. LET US KNOW WHAT KIND OF OSTOMY YOU HAVE. Rosemary

I have mine scheduled in Nov. It will be my first with a colostomy....watching this thread!!!

Yeah, I don't see why you would need to do a prep. What would be in your colon to need to be cleaned out?

NO PREP with ileos!!! They'll probably send you directions for it, but DON'T DO IT!!!!! The most you'll need is an enema the morning of, to remove mucous, after you've checked in.

And, when you call the office they won't know...call your doc directly to confirm!
